Need advice on criminal background checks

So when I was 19 I got caught shoplifting with friends because I was dumb. It was $20 worth of things but time so we're tough. I did not get arrested, but I got a ticket from a cop. I appeared in court for petty theft, had to do some classes and my case was dismissed. What I really want to know is if this is going to cause problems for nursing school and employment? I applied for LPN school and I'm scared to pay a lot of money just to be denied because of this showing up on a background check. Has anyone been through this and working as a nurse or in the medical field at all? I want to get it sealed but I just don't have money for an attorney right now. If anyone has any advise if like to know.
