Hello to all you colorado folk,

I am moving to Colorado Springs in March from Texas. I was wondering if anyone knows of any nursing home facilitys in Colorado Springs. I currently work in long term care and love it. Let me know if anyone has some advice..

Brenan

Hey Brenan! Welcome to the best state in the union! :-)

My Mom is a resident at Brookside Inn in Castle Rock. Castle Rock is actually closer to Denver than it is to the Springs, but Brookside is WONDERFUL. I've had numerous relatives in LTC and have seen homes that run the gamut from wonderful to okay to hell holes. I have nothing but respect for the folks at Brookside. Of course it would mean a commute on I-25, but you might at least look into it.

One I would have to caution you against is Life Care Center of Colorado Springs. It's affiliated with the retirement community where my Mom was living when she had her knee replacements. She went to LCC afterwards for rehab. The first knee went okay, but when she was in rehab for the second one she threw a clot and had a massive stroke. They did call 911 immediately, thank God, but then failed to call me. The gal in the front office said she tried a couple of times but got no answer...and I was at home that afternoon. I didn't even know Mom had been taken to the hospital until about three hours after the fact, and only because a friend had dropped by to see her and they told her Mom had been taken away by ambulance.

I did a little digging and found that LCC was being investigated for some kind of abuse/neglect situation. It's truly amazing...when you walk into the place it's absolutely gorgeous. Very high-end, very pretty, very clean. You never know, I guess.

Brookside in is very clean and pretty, but it doesn't look like a four star hotel. That's fine with me. ;-)

Good luck!
