Colorado nursing schools acceptance

Hello Everyone!

I'm new to this but have been looking through the posts and I'm hoping I can get a little help and advice?

I currently live in AZ but will more than likely be moving to Colorado at the end of this year. I am currently taking my pre-reqs so I should have all of them completed by the time I move out there. I have been trying to do as much research as possible but was hoping someone could kinda give me the low down of the school situation in Colorado (denver area, looking at moving near parker). I am wanting to get my ADN, and like everyone else would love to have it done quick without paying an arm and a leg.

For what I understand so far....

All the community colleges (well almost all of them) and Universities are a competitive acceptance, meaning there is no waiting list... you either get accepted or you don't. And the acceptance is HIGHLY competitive.

And from what I understand other schools like Platt and Denver School of Nursing are not as competitive, but it will be very pricey.

I'm just trying to get a better understanding of the schools out there and find out whats best for me.

I don't have the most wonderful GPA, I believe around a 3.0 and my pre-reqs are about a 3.5.

For someone thats is in my shoes whats the best route to go? Are there community colleges here that have a wait and are not as highly competitive to get into?

Sorry if this is all basic knowledge I have been trying to do tons of reasearch and want to make sure I go into the right direction.

Any help and input is greatly appreciated :D!!!

Otero Junior College admits on a first-come, first-served basis. Typically, there is no waiting list, so it should be easy to get into. It's a good school, but it's located in a rural area, so a lot of people are not interested in attending there. It's 3 hours south of Denver. If you try to get into a community college in the Denver area, you will be waiting a loooong time. And if you try to go to a private school in Denver, you will pay a LOT of money. OJC is a great choice. Also, CSU-Pueblo is not super competitive if you're interested in your BSN. Still a good school, but again, not the most popular area for people to live.

I was on the waiting list for Front Range Community College for 4 years. That was for the campus in Ft. Collins and I've heard its the same for the campus in Westminster. I don't know too much about schools near Parker - sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Hi Sarah. I am in Tucson and will be moving to Denver at the end of July. I am finishing up my last pre-requisite. My GPA is about the same as yours. I did volunteer a lot, both hospital and non hospital related experience. My plan is to get a CNA (it takes about a month in CO) and work while I am applying to nursing schools. I want to apply to Regis, Metropolitan, and U of C at Denver.

I love Tucson! If I could have, I would have gone to the UofA's nursing school!!!!

Thanks everyone for your posts!!! I havent been back on here because I actually a trip down there and just got back! :D I'll defnietly do more research but its great to get started in the right direction! I'm sure I will have more questions along the way, so thanks for all of your input!

hello nurses/future nurses!

i was hoping you guys could take the time to answer some questions. i realized that searching for discussion threads regarding ojc's nursing program has been very difficult! i'm currently living in oregon but i'm planning to move down to la junta. the fact that ojc has 4 application deadline dates is new to me because schools up here only have one.

i just wanted to know how soon after the deadline were you notified that you were accepted? how did they notify you? i'm applying for the last application deadline which is july 2. how many people are usually accepted?

if you guys don't mind could you provide some background info. if you were accepted/declined. factors such as your accuplacer score on math/reading, gpa for prereqs (english comp, a&p1&2, human development, microbiology) and did you complete the other prereqs (not the required ones but supplemental) the math 103 clinical calc.,nutrition,humanities/social science,pathophysiology? i would like to get a feel and see what area i can improve in.

Hello!!! I am exactly in your position today. I'm curious to know if you've successfully moved to Colorado! I'm sure you're almost done! Any input or thoughts and advice I may use today? Year 2014 ;]
