I can give an example of how management rsponds to a fzilure of a unionizaton drive .
At my hospital a recruitment occured , where the agreed upon contract was publicised , where amongst other things the pay raises were to be something like 8% ( initial contact ) then 6% for the subsequent annual raises .When the vote failed management honored the 8% , 18 months later ( N.B. not

According to the press release from the hospital:
The first contract with CNA was signed more than two years later in April 2006 after two strikes and a previous attempt by nurses to decertify.

For months, the CNA has been mounting campaigns to persuade SEIU nurses to decertify their union in hospitals in states including California, Ohio, and Nevada.

In March, the CNA sabotaged a three-year effort to win a fair process for 8,300 nurses and other workers at Catholic Healthcare Partners (CHP) hospitals in Ohio to freely choose whether to form a union with SEIU. Just six days before CHP workers were set to vote, CNA organizers came to Ohio to launch a vicious "vote no" campaign that ended in the cancellation of elections.

Maybe they should have been focusing their efforts on their own nurse members rather than wasting their dues dollars to sabotage other nurses.

Like all acute care hospitals in California this one is required to staff appropriately thanks to the CNA sponsored law. It was meant to help all patients in the state.
I think all hospitals need to stop fighting their nurses and staff safely.

[computer dropped me so will continue]12 months as scheduled)gave us 3% ,then 18 months later 3% gave to some ( qualified by date of hire[ most recent hires excluded as they had been hired in at higher rates than regular staff] and evaluation). you can bet when a new vote came up we voted in union ,showing management ,the same gratitude they had shown us for not voting the union in ,in the first place .
I genuinely wish the Scripps Encinitas nurses well , but advise them to watch how management responds

While some will argue that without a union individuals who continue personal growth efforts are rewarded , this is usually true of the anointed ones ( you know the ones who if they fall in a bucket of ****, come out smelling of roses ) , other great nurses who do not toe the corporate line are screwed.

Neither Scripps management nor Sherwood have any way of knowing how many RNs are members of CNA at Scripps Encinitas or how many RNs ratified the CNA contract.

There are not "greater than 600 RNs" at Scripps Encinitas. There are in truth about half that number.

Let's strive for a higher standard of accuracy from now on, shall we?
Ok......how is this for accurate based on your facts?

"Despite a contract with higher wages and improved benefits the performance and behavior of the California Nurses Association at Scripps Encinitas was unimpressive a majority of nurses voted to remove the union as their collective bargaining agent."

After reading the article about the secret SEIU clauses in contracts with NHs that keep the staff and the union from telling the dirty little secrets about bad pt care - I don't think that I would want to be part of SEUI. It is one thing to not be able to make good on wage increases, etc. but to have a union that thinks it is ok to hide abuse and neglect of pts - that's where I draw the line.
