Terminated from a job 14 years ago, question

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Published

I was terminated from a job 14 years ago from a nursing home, and I'm wondering will that effect me trying to get a job now? I worked as a CNA, and I'm currently getting back into nursing. Also, I'm looking to go to school soon to become RN.

The reason I was terminated was never told to me. It was a small nursing home in a

Tennessee town. I always thought, maybe it was because I was gay. The administrator and DON never told me why. She just said, "You're not what we expect from a CNA" I don't know why. I worked very hard and sometimes 16 hour shifts! Filling in for other CNAs. Also the administrator got very nervous after she terminated me, worrying about if I was going to take her to court. Ridiculous!

Since this was 14 years ago, in a different state and I never was told why I was terminated... will this effect me, trying to get a CNA job now?

If I can't get a CNA job... I will just have to look into Phlebotomy. I'm going to have to do something while going through school.

Most employment applications that I've seen only require the applicant to furnish a work history that covers the past ten years. So, since it is 2014, that job from 14 years ago need not be included unless you have a guilty conscience and wish to overshare.
