Question about Continuing CNA Education

"To maintain certification, all nurse aides must complete 48 hours of continuing education every 24 months."

I'm kinda confuse can someone please help me answer the following questions:

1. What are some of the options I can choose to continuing my CNA education?

2. When I'm completed the continuing education, who do I submit the form or proof to?

3. What's the cost for this cont. ed?

4. Is the in-service or continuing education mean the same thing?

5. How to keep the CNA certification active? How many hours are required?

1. This is dependent upon the state you are in. Most facilities will offer you in-services or have you read packets of information and complete a short quiz over the material. One place I worked at even had us do watch nursing videos online and complete short homework assignments.

2. Some facilities do the paperwork and submit it for you. Some places require you to do it on your own.

3. Usually it is free. I have never heard of it costing anything for CNAs (nurses, yes).

4. In-service refers to having a meeting at your facility where someone will lecture on various material. Continuing education may mean the same, or it may involve you doing things on your own time outside of work.

5. Most state require 1 paid 8-hour shift per 2 years to retain your certification.
