Overtime at hospital?

I have thought about working at the hospital and was just wondering if the CNAs at the hospital get alot of overtime? I know the nurses do but I was wondering about the CNA's?

It all depends on how well staffed your hospital is. I work at a hospital and depending on the schedule and census I was getting one extra shift a week until they cut off overtime and bonuses for working extra shift last month.

We didn't at our place. But, I'm in the Chicago 'burbs and there are lots of CNA's (lots of schools turning them out) so getting staff was not a problem. We also had a fair number of CNA's on the registry, so we could call and get coverage fairly easily.

But, that was our place. Don't know if that is a 'norm'.............

i live in wv and the constant i get from the hospital cnas is they don't get overtime and i believe it cause the work a lot of hours with me @ the nursing but you never know until you check with people who work where you want to work

At the hospital I work it, you can get plenty of over time if you work the night shift. In the day shift you can work between 40-48. We have enough nursing assistants now for day shift, but sometimes people call off and someone else can ask to come in that same day and work a 4, 8, 10, or 12 hour shift. Or sometimes my supervisor will schedule only 3 people (which doesn't make sense) and a NA from another unit will have to be pulled.

At the hospital I worked at it was very easy to get overtime. At one point I was working 5 12hr shifts per week, by choice.
