so im a tech working 3-12's a week and going to school 1 day a week with no kids. if you do the math, you'll see that i have plenty of time on my hands. i even have a few volunteer jobs on the side to keep me busy! well, as you all know, making 300 a week doesn't pay the bills. i totally love my job as a tech though and wouldn't give it up for the world! before i got my cna, i was a bartender raking in the $$$$. i enjoyed that too, but could do w/o the late nights and partying. :smokin: well my tech position is called variable ft which means i can't get a set schedule and this is making it real difficult to find a part time job anywhere!

does anyone have any suggestions on different types of part time work i could do besides waitress & bartender? all of the interviews i've been on for those positions, so far, don't work with my schedule. oh and i have considered a prn cna job but i wanted to do something "different" besides patient care part time. :coollook:

thanks in advance!

much love!

Have you thought about doing agency work? That way you could call in and let them know what hours you are available by the week. I don't know if that is exactly how agency work goes but I'm 75% sure it is.

Yea that has crossed my mind. Thank you for replying:D I guess I'm trying to do something TOTALLY unrelated to health care just as a break. I'd like to learn something new too. I don't mean anything major, just maybe like learning secretary stuff or data entry or something sedentary like that. Funny thought.

I can't really think of anything flexible like that since you don't have a set schedule from your CNA job...

Um...babysitting? Pet sitting? House sitting? Cleaning houses where the clients don't need a set schedule?

I would suggest a staffing agency or home health agency. You could be "on call" for call offs, or have a set schedule that does not interfere with what you are now doing, (i.e. opposite shift). If you are trying to find something not related to nursing, good luck. I always found it difficult or impossible to do this.

I know you said you dont really want to do anything involving bartending but my friend works for a company that does bartending for like weddings/bar mitsvahs/company events. Usually these events arent so crazy as the bar scene from what I understand. Even if they dont have this type of company where you are then maybe you could advertise yourself for weddings and so on...

Wow windmill, that's actually an awesome idea!

The place you worked as a bartender won't let you pick up shifts here & there??? What about temp agencies that let you show up in the am and pick up a job as needed? We have places like that here. Odd jobs, but just for the day and usually good pay b/c it's stuff no one wants to do. (Like $12 to let ppl taste stuff at Sam's Club :))

so i've been "putting" my resume out at all sorts of crazy different places. i actually got a call back today for an interview! it's with a local delivery co. that contracts with local restaurants delivering food. i applied for a dispatcher postion. i've never done that before and they sound like they will work with my school and work schedule. not too excited and don't want to be, but it's a step closer to more income. :yeah:

i've also applied to several catering companies to bartend. that would be the perfect gig, i think.

i'll keep posting on my progress. times are tough and everyone is looking for extra income. has anyone out there recently picked up a 2nd job for extra income? i'd love to hear your stories.
