Do the STEPS is skills testing have to be EXACT?

Hi, all! I am taking the CNA EXAM this Saturday. I am a bit flustered because I have actually watched "Nurses" on video perform the CNA skills for my state do a couple steps out-of-order. For example, disposing of the linens before the basins- when it says to dispose of the basins then the next step is linens... Of course the way the nurses did it makes sense because where would you put the linens if you're at the sink with the basin that needs cleaned and disposed of. Seriously- does "order" matter?!? Thanks for any insight! (Excuse title error)

It may depend on what state you're in. Steps didn't have to be in exact order for me...as long as you did them all. That's what I was told anyway. I am in Arizona. Good luck on Saturday! :)

Yep, it all depends on how strict your state is. I just passed my CNA exam in Texas and I did some steps out of order and still passed all 5 skills.

Some things definitely have to be in order. Like complete bed bath, you have to wash the eyes first, then face, etc. If you go for the feet first then obviously you will fail.

ROM for example, at least in my state, does not have to be in order as long as you get all exercises in.

I'm sure if you use common sense then you will pass with no problems. :)

GOOD LUCK!

Hi! Thank you both for the advice and encouragment! Now back to some serious studying. Ha!

And, I do appreicate any more tips or advice...

I am in Ohio, and here it doesn't matter the order, as long as you do each of the steps. I think they assume that everyone is going to things a little differently. Good luck! I was so nervous before my test just 1 month ago.

When I took the CNA exam 4 years ago it didn't matter. The final outcome is what mattered. I did some steps out of order. If if you didn't break clean/sterile technique then you're fine. If you didn't put patient in any harm then you're fine. The only thing that I think matters is handwashing. Just make sure your body doesn't touch the sink, and make sure that you NEVER touch the knobs with your bare hands. Hope this helps, and good luck.

HELLO ALL! *I PASSED THE CNA EXAM!!! YEA!!! And, I was not able to get the blood pressure reading,

and the evaluator let me do it twice, and even on the other arm. Faulty equipment because the ONLY

sound I heard was my heart POUNDING! Ha! Thank you all so much!:yeah::lol2:
