Crazy state regulations

So just got out of a meeting at the facility regarding what state came up with that the facility and employees need to work on and one of the changes was that a resident reported that one of the employees was "grumpy".... I know everyone has their days so I understand just as long as you are not neglecting the residents...but the crazy thing is that this employee got written up by state for being "grumpy"....what other crazy things have you guys have heard of that is just plain ridiculous?

Wash cloth on the floor of the linen closet

shampoo/soap stored in the linen closet

3 loop fibers pulled up from the carpet

Patient missing a black pair of sweat pants

Trash can without a bag liner

I could go on and on. I remember in a developmental psych class we were talking about the elderly and some how the class got on a rant about nursing homes and how "so many of them today receive state tags and can not be trusted to care for our elderly". Once everyone piped down I told them about the ridiculous state tags that are issued and how just because the state tagged a facility for something does not mean that that facility is incompetent. I also encouraged them to ask facilities that they may wish to have their family go to for there book containing their correspondences with the state so that they may see for themselves the quality of tags that they have received. By my states law that information has to be provided and made available to everyone. Heck when I did nights I dug up the book and read it for a good laugh. There are some pretty nit picky and borderline silly ones out there.

There should be a comic book about some of them!...its just ridiculous...it almost seems that they are going to crack down on so many stupid things that they are better off hiring robots instead of human beings!

We nearly got written up because one of our residents reported to the investigators that she lit herself on fire while smoking! I was the one tasked with taking away the cigarettes and monitoring her for state compliance while we tracked down paperwork and witnesses for the state... that was fun. She told me that the state investigators were lying in order to get her evicted. :-P

We were going to get into major trouble for that until we pulled out the paperwork proving that this individual is HIGHLY delusional and has a multi-year history of telling people she has been lit on fire, but to our knowledge never actually has injured herself while smoking.

One would hope that investigators interview residents in a mental health facility would realize that they are not all reliable historians and actually look through their files in detail. We offered to let them read the file (over a foot thick) after interview with our staff, and resident's case manager, and all of a sudden the claims against us were dropped (apparently after the first couple of pages they'd seen enough).
