Cna job hospital vs ltc

I had a job offer today at a LTC facility, looks like a great place they offer benefits and tuition reim. :imbar I also had a job interview today for a cna position at Duke University Hospital. I am waiting on them to call me but what if they offer me a job also. I am a cna I and cna II for a little background information I am so torn, should I go ahead with the job offer at a LTC facilty ( I have worked at one before) or go for the hospital option if the offer is given.

P.S. the position at duke university hospital is surgical step down unit post recovery

If you're looking to train further in your career, I'd suggest the LTC.

If you're happy with being a CNA II, I'd say go with Duke University Hospital.

I'm a CNA II (second career) & have never worked in LTC, only hospitals & now public health,

but I have a friend that worked LTC & her tuition was totally paid by her employer to go to LPN

school. It turned out great for her! Her hours at work were arranged to agree with her school

schedule and it was a win-win situation!

I think you have to go with what you enjoy doing. If you enjoy working with the elderly and doing activities of daily living (showers, briefs, feeding, etc) do LTC. If you like the medical side more do the post-op. I work in a post op unit and really enjoy it. The LTC scene was not for me. I am going to nursing school hopefully in the spring and feel that I will learn more in a hospital setting than in an LTC, plus there is more of a variety of patients. You don't have the same type of relationships with your patients as in an LTC though. In post-op they are in and out pretty fast.

If you want that hospital job, tell the LTC you have another offer coming in and you want to fully consider both offers before you decide. They may up their offer if they really want you. The risk is that they will offer it to the next person and then it was just not meant to be.

Thank you so much for your insight I definitely think if I am offered the hospital position I will go with that. If not offered at least I have the ltc to fall back on it is really a win-win situation I can always try the hospital again at later on!!

Well I got a job offer from Duke University Hospital a very good hospital near where I live, and I took the offer.:clown:

I will be working as a NA II in the surgical step down unit. I hope this works out I'm excited and nervous at the same time!!!

I think It was the right decision because I have worked in Ltc and it just was not for me anymore, I was looking for something a little more fast paced and from what I here I am going to get my wish.

best of luck! I am just wrapping up my cna course, so getting ready to move from business to nursing!!! Hope i can find a job too!
