CNA Job at 17??

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Published

Hello all!

I'm currently a 16-year-old pre-nursing student (doing dual-enrollment) hoping to apply for my BSN or ADN in 2019. Until then I want to get my feet wet and really get a feel for nursing and see if it's the right fit for me (I already know it is!!). I just started volunteering at Seattle Children's Hospital and it's been great, but I'm wondering if I get my CNA certification, will I even be able to find a job if I'm still under 18 and still in high school? I'll be 17 by the time I finish the program at my college, but that's still not 18 and although I am in college I don't have a diploma yet.

I'm willing to work anywhere! hospital, hospice care, assisted living, home health, I'll do anything!

I just turned 17 and will be getting my cert at 17 as well. My teacher said I might be able to be hired at some LTCs, but it might be more difficult for me until I turn 18 because of limitations like not being able to use the mechanical lift. Good luck on your class! :)

Yeah, I believe our only limitations would be signing contracts and using the lifts. I'm going to sign up for a class this summer and pray that someone will hire me :)

I worked at LTC when I was 17. There are a few places that hire you as long as you're 16 or finished your sophomore year of high school. There aren't a lot of places like this but they are out there. I called every single LTC facility in my area to find a place. Good luck!

*Also I'm from Seattle as well and the facility I worked at was in Tacoma (which is where I lived at the time). It was an Avamere facility and I think there's an Avamere in Seattle as well so maybe they have the same policy?
