Congrats on the new floor assignment! I have always worked cardiac/tele since I became a PCT, but I love neuro and always enjoyed helping out with these patients. The brain is so fascinating! But neuro/stroke patients are very heavy and can be a bit draining emotionally. In neuro you will deal with a lot of AMS, stroke, comas, traumatic brain injuries. Pretty much the whole floor will be falls risk, so these patients need a little bit more attention. You have to take great care in transferring your stroke patients that have lost certain functions and mobility, and some will be totals. It is going to be heartbreaking when you have a patients with conditions like aphasia or parkinson's. Taking care of neuro patients can be exhausting, but also rewarding. Yes, it is going to be more work than your hospice patients, but you will probably enjoy it. Just as long as your nurses are informing you of diagnosis and daily goals for each patient, then you will be fine. Have fun with it and good luck!

Thanks I'm nervous and excited to be challenged in a new way and I know this will definitely help with nursing school and becoming an RN. I am going to out of my comfort zone

Out of your comfort zone is good! You will learn new things, and I hope you love it. Ask for help when you need it, and enjoy your patients...they will be grateful to have your help.
