Can no longer take LTC job?

Nursing Students CNA/MA

I love my residents but I can't take the staff. EVERYONE their is so unprofessional. The job is just too much on my body and mental health. Like we're always short, sometimes we have two-three CNA's and the nurses- mainly LPNS talk to us any type of way .The hoyers doesn't work. We have all these showers, the LPNS ride us if we don't give showers. The administrator gets told what to do by the DON, and she's really mean. We had 6 people quick in 1 day and people walk out. I don't know what else to do. I'm in school for nursing but don't know if I can take this. Is there anything else or job thats steady and pays well besides nursing homes? In my mind all LTC are the same.

Specializes in Long term care.

All LTC's are NOT the same! I work in an awesome one where we are sometimes short staff, but we all pull together. We (the CNA's and nurses) work together. We have shower aides and therapy aides, along with floor aides. Makes all our jobs much easier.

You can look on the internet to check out the nursing homes rating with the state before you accept a job there. If they have a poor rating, you can bet it will be tough working there.

You can also work in assisted living facilities and home care, but they usually don't pay as much as LTC. If you have about 6 months experience, you can try getting into a hospital.

Good luck, hang in there....all nursing homes ARE NOT the same!!!!

Thanks! I really appreciate it! Its just tough you know. Its so much to do and everything falls on the CNA. I've been at this job for 13 months and haven't EVER once been happy there. I've tried hospitals to no avail. But that gives me hope that they're not all the same!
