Blacklisted CNA's, is there such thing?

I was just wondering if there is such thing as blacklisted CNA's. What I mean by this is, is there such thing as listing former, or current CNA's on a "untrustworthy, 'do not employ,' boycott, ostracize" list. Sometimes CNA's make mistakes, and more often than not it is for reasons that are beyond a CNA's control. Reasons such as unsafe staffing levels, uncooperaive patients/residents, or unclear assignments, etc. Eventually, the fingers will be pointed to the CNA under whose supervision such mistake or incident happened. This is why I ask if blacklists are something that higher staff and hiring personnel use, to keep an eye out for "bad" CNA's, keeping them from promotions, desirable schedules, or ever employment. Please share.

Yes, there is such a thing. I am aware of a CNA who had a bad reputation within the healthcare community. I discussed her with the person who was considering hiring her, because I had knowledge of this CNA. We discussed situations that went a little deeper than her displayed workplace behavior, to include the fact that the woman had pulled herself up from living on the street when she was homeless. Although both the person who I was talking to about the CNA and I both knew of the extenuating circumstances for this CNA (who had become an LVN), the boss of both of us made a comment about firing the person in spite of anyone trying to protect her. So yes, CNAs can be discussed in the healthcare community and it can affect whether they are hired, fired, are able to survive. The smaller the community, the more likely the CNA can be blacklisted or the other way around.

The healthcare community in Alabama is known for it. The only people I know to get blacklisted are those who had SERIOUS mental health issues or drug problem (coming to work high on crack).

yes there is a such thing as being black listed... it causes you to lose your certification and you can no longer work in the healthcare field. the causes of this is usually the result of abuse or neglect of a resident in your ltc employer. the website to check this is https://ph.state.al.us/nurseaideregistry/ this is for the state of alabama only. if you want to find the abuse list or blacklist for your state go to google.com and searc *state* cna list and it will give you a list of results. the list is usually in the state department of safty.
