I just finished with my CNA class, and I'm now waiting to take the state test. I just want to know if are there anything I can do that can help me in getting hired? I'm about to take EKG and phlebotomy to become a PCT, and I have a CPR certification. For the next semester, I'm considering taking Spanish, ACLS and PALS certification. Are those certifications necessary for a CNA?

Spanish is helpful if conversational not basic. But unless credentialed as a translator or interpreter by a recognized authority (fluency is required), you need to be careful how you present your language skills.

PALS & ACLS are advanced courses intended for nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists, physicians, nurse practitioners, PA-C, etc. you cannot intubate, defibrillate, or administer emergency drugs as a CNA. The classes cost $200-$350 and some agencies will not enroll those who cannot be qualified as providers. It's a difficult class with a lot of skills, cardiac rhythm identification and algorithm knowledge required. Since the skills are out of your scope of practice, it might be a waste of time & money.

Restorative Nurse Assistant (RNA), which is basically an add on ceu to the CNA certification & it's basic/entry level physical therapy for the elderly & it gets you $1-2 more than just being a CNA does. Also Assaultive Behavior training, Fire & Safety card, elderly care, demetia ceu's or certifications. If you are looking to be hired to work with children in the healthcare field there are a few online ceu classes that can help in that field. But as someone mentioned PALs and similar are usually reserved for LVNs and RNs
