Appropriate to call?

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Hello,

I've had my CNA certificate for about 2 months but have not found a job. I applied a few weeks ago to a couple of places but havn't recieved any call backs. I'm wondering if maybe I should give them a call instead. But I know some places ask that you not call to ask about your application so I don't know if it's appropriate. If I should call, what should I ask for? or who do I ask for?

your answers will be appreciated. I've been delaying getting a job out of fear but now I'm worrying I'll never find one. Everyone always said I would get hired quickly at LTC facilities but then why havnt I gotten a call?

I am experiencing the same problem. I have my CNA & BLS license since June and still am very unsuccessful in finding a job. I am do to start the BSN program @ Chamberlain in Oct but was hoping to have job before then. Anyone have any advice. I have applied to all the local hospitals and nursing homes in Jacksonville and still no luck. HELP!!!!!!!!

Yes, by all means call them. Put yourself back on the top of the stack. Ask to speak to the ADON or DON of the facility. Don't be fearful or shy away. It's dog eat dog out there!

Sure, go for it, unless they have said when you applied "Do not call to follow up". Otherwise, I'd wait about a week and then call the ADON or DON, like topher said. When you get to speak to her or him, say "Hi, this is so-and-so, and I'm calling to follow up on the CNA application I turned in recently. I wanted to be sure you knew how interested I am in working at your facility, and to see if you had a timeframe for when you'll be starting interviews." Be polite and thank him/her for her time no matter what answer you get.

I would thats how I got my job. It had been 2 weeks and I did not hear back so I called and they set me up with a interview for the next day and hired me on the spot :)

If i would be so lucky to get hired on the spot lol. This might be a silly question but what does ADON OR DON stand for? I always see people write about it but im not sure what it is. And do you say the individual letters or is it a said like a word...i know im so silly for not knowing. :( thanks guys ill definitely call.

Yes, either call, or better yet, just show up. It shows you're really interested. If I were you I would try hitting the pavement and applying in person. Good luck!

ADON - Assistant director of nursing.

DON - Director of nursing.

Yes yes yes, by all means, call!

The DON at a facility I used to work at told me that she wouldn't even consider applicants that didn't call to check on their applications, because calling shows they are invested in getting the job. Jobs are in high demand right now, so places really want you to show that you are willing to work to get the job.

I always give them a business day or two, and if I have not heard from them, I call and ask them about the status of my application. I have never once not gotten an interview after doing this. :)

I always call within 2 or 3 days after interview

So i called the places i had applied to and they all just kind of blew me off. Either they never called me back or just explained that they havnt reviewed the applications and that if theyre interested then theyll call back. Im feeling hopeless because at the last place i applied to everyone was nice and it is a pretty nice facility. I havnt even gotten an interview

The economy stinks, a lot of places have far more applicants than they have jobs. If I were you, I would try doing some volunteer work at a couple of places. That way your name gets around about how much you want to work. Second, go back and look at your application and or resume. There are plenty of free programs that might be able to offer advice so its the best it can be. Good luck!
