HI guys-

At the LTC where i work, there is an incentive program to get nurse aides to become med techs and nurses at the facility. They will pay for your school and books IF you sign a contract that you will work there for X amount of years. To become a med tech takes 1 semester and you sign up for 1 year service. For nursing you sign up for 5 years. Now I'm already going to school for nursing(i start in the fall or spring in actual nursing courses) and i get full financial aide so i wouldn't purse that contract, but does anyone think it would be a good idea to go for CMT school? I'll be in school for 2 years in nursing anyways, so the work would be easier while in school.

Is anyone here a CMT, or does your facility offer these contracts? are they more trouble than they are worth?

Any help would be appreciated.

Since you're already in school for nursing, and just looking for the extra money I think its worth it. As long as you really like it there and are happy and most important they'll work with your school schedule.

The ltc I'm at doesn't pay as much as the large corp. owned ones but they are completely flexible with changing schedules, ie school kids activities ect.

My facility also has this program, but you have to agree to 2 years service for each year of school. I hope to start LPN school next January but I'm paying for it myself because I don't want to commit to my LTC for that length of time.

I am hoping to go for CMT in June and then work as a Med Tech while I'm in school next year. I will be able to work Fri and Sat. My ADON is very supportive of me going for Med Tech and then continuing on for LPN.

Yeah, i really dont want to be stuck at my LTC either! THey are really driving me crazy. I think being a med tech would be less stressful while i'm in school.
