Any tips to help focus and calm down before state exam?

I have my exam tomorrow. I wasn't prepared to take it yet, they said it was a 2 month waiting list, and I got my date in 2 weeks!! And then they called to say I have to bring a patient with me, after everything stating I had to prepare to be a volunteer client for someone else. I know the skills inside and out ...but just the thought of doing the exam makes me forget everything.

I wish they just watched you while you are working for a real person by video or something....that would be far more accurate during your clinical instead of someone following you around with a clipboard. And my instructor said they have been failing people for really stupid things, like forgetting foot lotion....so that doesn't help my nerves any.

Anyway...any tips or help to calm down and stay focused would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks! :)

It's better to take the test sooner than later, when everything is still fresh in your mind. Plus you get it over with that much quicker. Just think in 2 weeks you'll be a CNA, while other have to wait 2 months!

The only productive thing you can do right now is practice, so you'll be more confident when it's time for the test. Do something enough times and it becomes embedded in your muscle memory and you won't have to think about it as much. Use your real test subject so you're both comfortable for the test.

The person testing you will know that you're nervous. It's normal. If you fail, and chances are, you won't, you can just take the test again. It's not forever.

Thanks! Of course it's almost 2am and I still can't sleep! I have been going over every skill in my mind....I practiced on a big stuffed pooh bear (my MIL couldn't be here until late tonight)....4 more hours and I have to get up to get ready and go...at least it's first thing....

Thanks again!

Goodluck! Just take your time and play every step in your head, follow through you will do fine! :)

As it turned out I was the only one there to test....the others canceled, so that is why I had to bring my own patient.

She gave me all the easiest skills....fingernail care, turning on side, weight, and TED stockings.....

I passed! Yippee!! I am glad it worked out that way...it was very relaxed and casual...she and my MIL were laughing and talking away while I was doing the skills....it was perfect! LOL!!

Thanks and have a great weekend!
