any long time cnas?

i have been a cna for a very long time...are there any others out there like me? i did have plans to go to nursing school at one point, but then i had a child with pretty substantial disabilities...feeding tube, deaf, severe delays, etc. that has honestly consumed most of my time. now, i dont see myself working full time, much less going to school for anything. it kind of makes me sad, but it is what it is, i guess. i just feel so....LOSER-ISH!

While I am no longer a CNA, nor have I worked as one for a long period of time, I must say...please do not see yourself as a "loser." Life happens and sometimes our goals and dreams get set aside. Being a mother of eight (momof8CNA - so I am guessing - hopefully right) while managing to find time to work at all to me is anything less than loser-ish. You might find the time to go back to nursing school one day...as I am sure you already know, we can surprise ourselves with the challenges that we can overcome when we really want to. Good luck to you! The best CNAs I know are long timers and I would not trade them for the world. Best wishes!!

thanks! i dont see it happening, at least any time soon..i just turned 40, and i had my 8th in december. its so hard having a baby and a 5 year old "baby" at the same time. i enjoy my work, and i think it is definitely of value, but i wish i couldve done more, i guess. ive noticed one thing though..i have a hard time with kids..i hate being on the pediatric floor..the kids are adorable, but i either feel sad because they are "normal" and it reminds me that my little guy is not, (none of the kids at our hospital are sick, its usually very minor stuff) or they have some of the same issues that my son has and that also makes me sad. i really think ill have to work through my sons disability before i can think of going to school, for sure. life is rough sometimes..he was my 7th, and never in a million years did i think i would have a child with a syndrome so rare, that it only effects 1 out of every 2 million kids, not after having 6. sorry for the novel, i tend to ramble! thanks for the response though, i really appreciate that!!

I have been a CNA for more than 20 years.

I love what I do. I thought about going to nursing school. I am in my 40's, single with no children and have all the time I would need.

I have no desire to go back to school because I see the value in what I do everyday. My sister and my best friend are nurses and while they also love their jobs, they say their biggest complaint is they don't have the time to really spend with their patients. They depend on us to notice what they can't always have the time to see.

I see HUGE value in being a CNA.

I can NOT see how you would feel like a "loser"? I'm sorry you feel that way!

Don't be so hard on yourself!
