Advanced Training for CNAs

I was wondering if any of you have heard of advanced training programs for CNAs, I know that some programs train CNAs to do phlebotomy or med. techs and so on but I was wondering if anyone has heard of a type of program or certification that teaches CNAs to work with pediatrics or neonates? My CNA class instructor said their was some program at one of the state's hospital (that specializes in womens health) that is advanced training for CNAs. I believe she said it was to work in pediatrics but one of the other students said it was neonates. I wasn't sure but I didn't think that CNAs work with neonates but maybe I'm wrong. I was just wondering if anyone has heard of any kind of advanced training for CNAs that sounds similar to what I'm describing.

As far as I know we CNA's do not recieve extra training unless it is require for the position you are seeking. For example my job description requires me to do blood sugars, EKG's and blood draws. My facility offered me classes to become certified in each of these.

As far as I know CNA's do not float to NICU because of the fragile state of the neonates and the fact that all care is done by the RN's.

Where I live, the American Red Cross does CNA training and they offer advanced courses as well. Once you obtain a CNA, they have Acute Care training and Home Health Aide training. These are only 1-2 week training courses, so obviously the training isn't THAT much more information then you already have. Also, the ARC where I live offers Continuing Education Units for CNAs which are only one day classes. Here they offer: Healthy Aging, Prevention and Management of Elimination Problems, Women's Holistic Health Care, Disablility Experience, Holistic Health, Arthritis/Fibromyalgia, and Nutrition. Since these courses aren't very long, I have no idea if hospitals/LTC centers/etc. take them into consideration when hiring you though.
