Hi everyone, I'm interested in Chamberlain for the MSN-FNP program. It's one of my top 3 choices at the moment, and I'm working on my application. I've read all of your questions and responses. But I have a few more questions. Are the first several classes difficult? Is it only discussion threads and papers? No exams? Do they teachers equip you with enough resources to understand and grasp the concept? In what classes do you begin taking exams? I've noticed that some people are taking 2 classes at a time. Is the workload more difficult? Or is it manageable with a full time job? Are you able to maintain a social life? Approximately how many pages are the papers? And do you have to write 3-4 papers in each class? Are the teachers specific in the rubric and format that they want the papers? And if you could give an estimate, what is the price of your tuition for the entire program? Please and thank you. I just want to make the best decision for the next step of my education.

I am taking one class at a time. Total cost for me (military and/or alumni rate, pretty much the same) is about $27K, but I am using my GI Bill to pay for it. Yes, there are lots of papers and discussion posts. Specific rubrics are provided, and the requirements seem reasonable to me as far as papers and number of pages. Each class is a bit different. But no group projects!! I am currently on the downslope of the first FNP-specific course, Epidemiology (NR503). I feel like those who are actively shaping this relatively new program listen to student feedback. Yes, you still have to find your own preceptors, but the local schools are the same deal.

Hello there!

I am in 508 (pharmacology).

1. Are the first several classes difficult? - The first 7 classes are paper intensive, the worst classes are theory and research (in my opinion)

2. Is it only discussion threads and papers? - Yes only discussion thread (although now very in depth and some have 3 parts to answer) and 3 papers each class, with the exception of statistics - I believe there is 1 paper and 2 worksheets.

3. No exams? - no exams

4. Do they teachers equip you with enough resources to understand and grasp the concept? - that depends on the teacher. Thankfully, most of my teachers have been beyond helpful and they provide numerous outside resources in addition to the assigned readings

5. I've noticed that some people are taking 2 classes at a time. Is the workload more difficult? Or is it manageable with a full time job? - I started the program July 2014 and I doubled every class allowable while working a full time night job and I was pregnant (I just gave birth 7 weeks ago). The workload is more difficult in the sense that you have to have excellent time management skills to complete all the coursework on time.

6. Are you able to maintain a social life? - As long as you have great time management then you can still have a social life while doubling

7. Approximately how many pages are the papers? And do you have to write 3-4 papers in each class? - paper range from 5-8 pages each and each class has 3 papers due on even weeks (with the exception of statistics)

8. Are the teachers specific in the rubric and format that they want the papers? - For the most part yes, but there are some that are inconsistent with the rubric, and the expectations can vary from professor to professor.

9. And if you could give an estimate, what is the price of your tuition for the entire program? - My employer provides tuition assistance and also has an academic agreement with Chamberlain, knocking $600 off per class. With that said, my out of pocket expense will be between $10000 - $15000.
