Who has to do research?

Specialties CRNA

How many current nurse anesthesia students and recently graduated CRNAs are/were required to complete a research project in their program. I'm required (first year SRNA) to complete an original research project before graduation. I know this topic has been discussed before but I'm interested in what the experiences are for the newly matriculated students.

Do you feel that this requirement is a beneficial experience for the student anesthetist ?

I am contemplating researching the effect of epidural anesthesia on the second stage of labor if anyone is interested. Please feel free to weigh-in on that as well?

I have to do original research. Starting my second year (402 done/411 to go). BTW, I'd avoid pregnatt women and kids like the plaque for research. IRB issues. They are considered a vunerable population.

Dave,

Thanks for the heads up. I'm interested in doing a retrospective chart review survey. Hopefully this will help cut some red tape. We'll so though.

good luck on the retrospective chart study, we were told we couldn't do them, as they compromise patient confidentiality. We have apparently not gotten these types of studies through our irb in a while.

I have chosen to study srna's, via web survey, so you all may be seeing my research project. I chose this, as I wanted my clinical time to be spent learning, and not chasing data points to increase my n.

later guys.
