Anyone heard about this documentary? it's about hospital based, collaborative midwife/physician practices in the U.S. My midwifery program was briefly featured, so we got an advanced copy to view, and it is AMAZING. Definitely consumer-oriented, and I would have liked more factual data about midwifery care, but overall I think it is incredibly well done, and a fair and balanced portrayal of hospital-based midwifery practice.

Of course, I am biased because I am in the movie! I don't think you can see/hear me in any of the trailers/sneak peaks though.

Oh, this looks like a wonderful new show. I know what I will be watching. My kids are saying, "OH NO!!!" lol. Do you know what station it is going to be on?

I have heard about it and I'm excited to see it. That's so cool that your practice was featured! Above poster, it's a documentary, not a TV show.

I'm looking forward to this documentary!

Oh well I guess I'm looking forward to this documentary as well. Lol. From all of the different you tube clips I watched it would have made a good show. I guess my kids lucked out this time.

It's kinda funny, though. . . They featured 4 practices, one or two births per practice. We see a hands and knees breech birth (done by an MD with a CNM assisting), a waterbirth, some lovely unmedicated births. But the births from our practice are a highly medicalized birth and a c/s for placenta previa! At first I was all up in arms because I thought it made us look like the dreaded "medwives," but then I realized it was actually pretty great to see how midwives can care for women through the whole spectrum- from a groovy water birth to a birth where tons of intervention is needed.

Our practice serves a lot of refugees, and there was a big focus on that in the film, which I though was great. We run a Centering Pregnancy group for Iragi refugees, and that was probably my favorite part of the whole movie. We also work with the local women's correctional facility- too bad that wasn't part of the movie.
