Do you have a POD setup where you work?

A POD is 2 single rooms with a desk between them and windows that if you are sitting at that desk you can see into the 2 rooms unless closed for privacy. Generally there is a computer for work and at some PODS a generalized monitor for seeing everyone's EKG although not at every one.

Now, supposedly it was made this way as the hallway is long and you could not put a central monitoring station due to the configuration of the building.

Also, it was first theorized that you would take care of the 2 patients in the POD but with acuity that is not feasible unless you are constantly moving the patients around.

What does everyone think of this???

I've seen it used for units that have mulitple long hallways and no real central area. I've never used it but I think it would have really good points and some not-so-good. I like the idea of having an area to chart and see monitors while being really close to the patient's room. But what if you were watching someone else's patients while they were on break? You're right, the acuity issue would be a problem.
