Electronic Stethoscopes

Hey fellow CCRNs:

After three years in the ICU, My Littman Cardio III developed legs and ran away from home .

When I started nursing school I had a Littman Master Cardiology stethoscope, but never felt like I was auscultating what a $200 stethoscope should allow me to hear. When the Master Cardiology was kidnapped (silly me), I changed to the Cardio III. I felt it was very appropriate, although occasionally I couldn't hear the fine crackles others might. Probable user error.

Now that I no longer have the Cardio III, I have the opportunity to purchase another stethoscope. I read the earlier 11 posts but didn't find anything truly helpful.

Has anyone else found the Master Cardiology to be inferior to the Cardio III? What about those newfangled electronic ones? I deal primarily with vented patients, usually overweight, and posterior auscultation is not always an option.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and advice.

Linda

I have also wondered about the electronic stethescopes. If anyone has used them, please share your experiences.

One of our cardiologists that is hearing impaired uses an electronic stethoscope (with headphone earpieces). I have never really asked him if he likes it...I don't think he has too many other options due to his hearing aids. It seems to work for him though.

I have used the Littman Cardio II and III. I can ascultate much better with the II than the more expensive III.

Unless you can fnd it on eBay, I don't think Littmann makes the Cardio II anymore.

I for one LOVE my Cardio III. So, it doesn't grow legs and walk, I keep my scope around my neck at all times! I've had it for 3 yrs now.

Place a label on your stethescope stating:

If you steal this stethescope, your loins will go numb.

Keep it close to you and put it in your locker @ the end of the shift, or take it home. :nono:

If anyone tries to borrow it, demand their car keys as collateral!!

Good Luck!

Bought a 22 inch Master Cardiology, had it engraved. Love it.

Thanks for all of your help.
