Obama Care, which includes Medicaid Expansion in the states that accepted it. Sadly, about 25 Republican Governors choose not to accept the Expansion, thus harming their health care system and those that are not poor enough for state run healthcare (Medicaid) but not rich enough to pay for it on his/her own in the open market or through his/her employer. Fortunately, in those same states there is help!

Those same citizens, can now find relief by going above the heads of their Republican run governments (the ones who did not accept the Expansion, thus giving the middle finger to their working class and middle class constituents), and go to healthcare.gov (the federal government website) to shop around for affordable health care insurance in the private market thanks to Obama Care. But I digress...

In the example you cited, the patient/US citizen can receive Medicaid (or whatever your state calls it) because a Spinal Cancer DXshould make him/her eligible despite any economic status or Republican run governments thanks to Obama Care (aka, the Affordable Care Act).

Spinal Cancer DX used to mean you had to be rich and/or sell all of your worldly possessions to fight. Now, due to Obama Care, that is no longer the case. We all have a fighting chance against Cancer because of Obama Care and we do not have to be rich or become poor to do so!

I think that the logical follow through would have been to file a WC report based in the fact that the person thought it was a work related injury. From there, the WC board would need to decide that it is or is not (sounds like not if it is medical dx of spinal cancer).

So if that is the case and the decision is that it is not work related, what are the options? They should speak with someone at the place they were dxd (hospital?) and see what options they may have in applying for Medicaid and/or disability. It would seem as though it is not on the employers worker comp but upon the individual.

Best wishes to them.

Thank you for your feedback.
