How to enter into case management???

Hi
I have been a nurse for about a year now. I started out with dialysis nursing but I have ALWAYS been interested in case management. I was offered a job that was similar to case management but at the time I could not take the job. I am now working on a med surg floor with hopes of becoming a case manager soon. I just wanted to know if I am on the right path? what other suggestions do you all have?

CCM (Certified Case Manager). More information can be found at:

http://www.ccmcertification.org/

ANCC offers the certification as a Case Management Nurse.

You are on the right course... I would suggest that you find a few other RN's to study with.. I completed exam last year and it is a detailed study course...

The CCM exam and ANCC's Case Management Nurse exam require work experience to be eligible to take the exams.

Many nurses without case management experience have went on to take the CPHM exam from McKesson.

You can find more information about the CPHM at the Case Management forum:

The job. CCMC requires one year CM experience under a CCM, or two year's CM experience regardless of the certification of your supervisor's cerfication status.

The job comes first and then the CCM. You must have experience to be able to sit for most of the case manager exams.

To locate possible jobs do a google search on: "workers compensation case management" and "workers compensation insurer" The workers compensation case management will bring up at least a few companies who hire nurse case managers. The search on insurers will give you information on some workers compensation companies. These companies may hire internal case managers. If now, you can ask for a workers compensation claims adjuster and ask them what companies they use for case management services. You can then contact those companies to find out if they are hiring.
