I had a lot of psych questions, and I'm an old state hospital psych nurse, so that really helped, along with my recent experience doing acute care hospital case management. As far as text, I used Case Managers Study Guide by Fattorusso. Seems like VERY few questions were in the book that were in the test. I could have passed soley from my long ago psych experience and effective communication techniques we are all taught as nurses. Should have saved the $$$ and just taken the test.

I just enrolled in a case management certification course a Kaplan University, do I need to sit for the CCM exam that I read everyone is talking about? I am a RN with an associates, mainly have worked med/surg, and surgery floors..am I taking the right steps toward case management career?

Please any advise would be appreciated..

My understanding is that you still have to sit for the exam, as that is the only way to become certified. From the people I have talked to that did the Kaplan program, it did not prepare them any moreso than studying on their own for the exam. Good luck!

I just passed the exam also. I read the CMSA Core Curriculum for Case Management and then used the Certi-Step CCM prep CD. It was quite pricey at $249 but it really prepared me. I couldn't believe how easy the exam questions were compared to the questions on that CD.

Everyone who took the 1st computerized test in December, the results are posted on the CCMC website by searching for your name. YEAH, I passed this time...didn't pass 3 yrs ago. Very tough exam 3 yrs ago. This one was either very different or I have really grown with experience.

I took an all day prep class presented during the CMSA Conference. And I would recommend this for everyone. Also, I liked the computerized testing. I wish you the best.
