Not me. I had my first ever episode of chest pain. I was doing the "Elvis" thing, and I felt a knife stick in my chest back to my right shoulder. I gathered my wits about me and I moved very quickly grabbed the bottle of asiprin and started chewing. I laid down and it took 5 minutes to subside. Since it didn't come back I went about my business, called the doctor today. He had a fit.

I think he knew I was scared so he calmed down a bit. I went to pick up the bottle of NGT he called in. He said if it happens again go to the ER and I made an appointment to see him on Friday. He told me to decide if there are any cardiologists on the list I know. Hell, I know Oncologists and Pathologists these days. I would rather wait a while to see the latter.

I am in the "why me" phase. I am on lipator, chol 144, BP is 110/70. I have had rapid rhythms so I take atenalol. I printed out angina from web MD and put it in my husband's brief case. I am open to any comments any one has. I am 51 with both parents having MI's. They smoked, I don't.

God bless you Barb. I'm glad you're getting checked out. Sounds like your EKG looks OK and you've got some sl NTG if you need it. Methinks you'll probably get a stress test and/or echo. Let us know how things go for you. We're pullin' for you.

Thank you. I have had a week to think about this, and I am ok. Just look at health care right now. We used to be admitted with a hang nail the night before surgery.

To the most important point, all the CPR classes I took, and the whole lecture about chest pain, man I was not prepared for what it would feel like, They say it is different in women, you bet, no elephant on my chest, more like a dagger in my chest and coming out the right scapula.....anyway, thanks for being there.

barb- isn't he going to give you a stress test? Or just let you worry until it happens again? You need more follow up than a bottle of pills.

I have my refferal to the Cardiologist at the Cleveland Clinic. I was given 3 visits and one includes any testing the Doctor wants to do. I faxed the refferal over and told the appointments clerk I have no plans for the next hopefully 50 years, and they will schedule it all and call me back. They will book the stress test for the second visit, and to come fasting on the first appointment. I am so happy the cleveland clinic came to south florida. It is so organized. And still sposta call 911 if nitro doesn't relieve the chest pain times one.

Barbara the grateful one.

I have always joked about my heritage saying things like "strong like bull, she will pull the plow when the mule dies" hmmmmm.....

Hey barb any new news?

Well I just noticed the lines which apparently mean banned under barbs name so I guess we won't be getting any future updates

Specializes in Med-Surg.

Yes, Barb was banned for reasons unknown to me. I am still in touch with her from time to time, and if it's ok with her I will update when she knows something.

I think this was a pretty big loss for the forum. Barb could be quite outspoken and maybe even abrasive at times, but she had a lot of knowledge and experience that added tremendously to allnurses.com.

I agree I always felt she had good views and was sort of a dry humor but humorus
