Hi guys! I'm new to this site. I was wondering if anyone works on a telemetry observation unit and what it is like? The average time span a patient stays on the unit is about 12-18 hours. Thanks:geek:

I love the tele observation unit! Most patients are "walkie-talkies". I rarely had anyone who is a total care patient. Most didn't have any complicated diagnosis. The obs unit has lesser stress than the usual telemetry floors. There's less paperwork also as we do not have to complete any admission intake and any other paperwork that is required on admission. The only downside is that patients come and go. Lots of admissions and discharges. Then some of your patients may be going to a quick procedure while you are admitting/discharging. Day shift can become crazy! You really have to manage your time well and you should be able to multi-task safely.

I have spent many years on a PCU cardiac floor so I don't really mind not having any more experience in fresh post-ops, complicated dx, etc. If experience is important to you, then you may not get all of that in Obs.
