  1. Inappropriate ways, such as living with co-workers that are friends, stopping my retirement to make more money to afford living two places, giving me more responsibility, and also going as far to say I should reevaluate my relationship with my husband.
  2. Thank you all for the tips!
  3. Hello! I recently expressed to my manager that it is very likely that I will be leaving my current job. The conversation did not go well, and I was very emotional because I do love my job very much. My husband is military and recently got relocated a few hours away in a different state and I have been driving back and forth for the past few months. My manager did not take it well and was giving me "ways" I could make it work. I have decided if this is the path I want to take I need to be very matter of fact about it. I do not want to bring up this conversation again with her until I put in my two weeks notice. With that being said, my question is once I put in my two weeks notice is it exactly two weeks from that or is it two weeks of shifts (72 hrs or 6 shifts)? Also, do I email her and my HR department my letter of resignation? Thank you
  4. Thanks for your reply! This is exactly why I feel like ER would be great for me, however I am nervous about the stress of learning a new work environment while in school. I have a couple of months to think about it. Thanks for your input!
  5. Hey guys! I was wondering if any FNPs with experience in UC could provide me with some insight. I am in my third semester of my FNP program and plan on working UC after graduation. 1. What are your hours? Holidays? weekends? 2. What lenght of orientation did you receive and what would be appropriate to ask for? 3. I am most nervous about xrays, suturing, and splinting. Are there any good resources for these? 4. What is an acceptable pay? 5. I am moving at the end of the year and starting at a new hospital. I have experience on a cardiac step down and observation unit. Should I try to work the ER? I have been a nurse for four years. Thanks!!
  6. I am in my second semester of FNP school and I am finding that the work is manageable and not nearly as bad as I thought (discussion board posts, papers, quizzes, and mass amounts of reading). However, I feel as if I am graded extremely easy and this bothers me. You have to realize that the majority of what you will learn will be from experience. Setting up great clinical sites will be essential. At this level, master degree students should be able to self-teach. I go out of my way every day to read new information. I work full-time, but will cut back to part-time once my clinicals start.
  7. Just an update, cookies worked perfectly. I only physically went to two offices (both I had wanted to precept at) and BOTH places said they would precept me and appreciated how forward and professional I was about it. Good luck guys!
  8. Hello! I am also looking for my preceptors. I was able to locate my first one by asking a doctor I work with who has an internal med practice. I would suggest using your network first. I have other connections, but all out of state. I plan to go around with cookies and a folder of my resume and business cards. Act professional and I am sure you will find someone :)
  9. Hello everyone! I just wanted to explain my experience with getting my license through endorsement. I sent my application out in April and they didn't cash my check until May 20th. It is possible to get a hold of someone, you just have to call first thing in the morning or around 4-4:30. They don't respond to emails. I was treated so poorly and rudely by these people every time I called just to confirm I had everything in! I reported it to the DCA and a manager got back with me and was even MORE rude. He stated that just because I paid for a temp doesn't mean they have to issue it and that it may take more than the 6-8 weeks. I was furious so I reported them again! The next day I got an email from a very nice lady and my license was issued that day! This organization is terrible!
  10. Thanks so much for the post! It helped a lot :)
  11. Hello! I had an interview at Sharp healthcare for a TELE observation unit. I was very nervous, but i feel as if i answered all the questions okay. I didn't bomb it, but I didn't feel like I did super great either. It was my first "real" interview! My last position i simply got hired right on the spot, no questions asked (I precepted on the unit in nursing school). Anyways, at the end of the interview she asked if she could have a copy of my CA nursing license. I explained to her how I am suppose to have it by the end of the week (a temporary). I even had it on my resume that I did not currently have it yet, but she looked so surprised. The whole good vibe of the interview changed and she said that they don't hire nurses with temps. Another nurse in the interview (there was a panel of 5 managers/team leads/nurse educator) stated that as long as I had a license number then it didn't matter. I didn't really get an answer at the end of the interview. Does anyone know if sharp will hire someone with a temporary license? Trying not to get my hopes up. I don't want to not get this job based on the fact I don't have a license yet. I was sent an email from the BON stating that my temp OR permanent license will be issued by the end of the week. Should I send it to the manager who interviewed me? I feel as if that's a bit much, however. Thanks for any input! :)
  12. Hi guys! I'm new to this site. I was wondering if anyone works on a telemetry observation unit and what it is like? The average time span a patient stays on the unit is about 12-18 hours. Thanks:geek:
