My job offer...how does it sound to you guys?

Specialties Cardiac

This past week I got offered a job in my hospital's CPRU (Cardiovascular Preparation and Recovery Unit). In some hospitals that have this unit, it may be called CVRU (Cardiovascular Recovery Unit). Here's the breakdown:

~Prep and recover cath lab and EP lab patients

~Dayshift

~6A-6P (yikes!)

~No holidays

~No weekends

I would be keeping my PRN status in the ICU, because the CPRU job is rotating 3 shifts/week and 2 shifts/week. The weeks I work 2 shifts, I'd pick up my 3rd in the ICU.

So stumped as to whether I should accept the job offer. Job satisfaction is high there. Turnover rate is super low. Anyone work in this area or in a similar unit? How does the job sound? Thanks!

If turn over is low or super low it is for a reason, take it, take it, take it.

You had me at no holiday's no weekends. I work in labor and delivery so i have no idea of the work your doing, i however work 6a-6p and love it. I love my 12's and yes 6am is early but traffic is usually great, i get home earlier as well i actually get to see my kids for an hour or so before they go to bed

Specializes in Critical Care, Operating Room.

I am still an RN student for a couple more months.. but just got to do some shifts in cath lab and recovery... and loved it! The nurses there all said they love their work... that it's typically lower stress than floor nursing (not sure how true that is)... their turnover is VERY low... it really seemed like they were a family..

on a side note, I'll be happy to take that ICU position off your hands LOL... let us know what you decide!

Thanks so much for the replies, guys. I accepted the job offer and start orientation this week. I am very excited!

Nursgirl, congrats on approaching the end of nursing school. :yeah: Lots of luck finding a great job in our wonderful profession! If you have your heart set on ICU, don't lose sight of it and it will happen. ;)

To anyone interested...

After completing my first three shifts in CPRU, I just wanted to say I honestly believe that cath lab and CPRU (where I work now) are THE BEST UNITS TO WORK IN THE ENTIRE HOSPITAL!!!!! :hpygrp:Although CPRU gets very busy at times, it was actually a joy to be at work this week. I love it! :loveya:

Wow! Where is this job? I wish I could find a job that I love. I haven't found that place yet:) congratulations!

Specializes in Cardiac, Acute Stroke Unit, Surgical.

I have a full time position in the medical ward and last year I was seconded 2 days per fortnight to the Cardiac Cath lab and I love it! Best decision I ever made, but its hard work though......A lot more standing in one place than floor nursing. My feet hurt at the end of the day. Its a different kind of "busy", so it gives me a break from the floor, and the floor gives me a break from the lab!

I love both my jobs so I hope I never have to choose between the two.

Glad to hear you are enjoying the lab too.

(Ours is a small lab: we do our own prep and recovery as well as working "inside" the lab).

i was wondering how your job was going? Do you still love it. How good do you have to be at reading ekg's and what is the sickest pt you have had so far...did anyone tank on you....besides the occasional vasovagal when pulling the sheath. I'm interested in working in such a unit like this....am looking for a lower stress level than the ER.

Thanks,

Kit
