Seneca College Pre Health 2014

World Canada CA Programs

So, if anyone followed me on this forum, you will know that I did some deep soul searching and needed advise on the correct path to nursing for me. Well, I have decided to go the pre health route and apply to Nursing school afterward. I started this thread for those entering Seneca's pre health program in fall 2014 or even winter 2015. Of course, also looking for advise/tips etc from anyone who has been through this program at seneca or any other school. Maybe those of us in the fall program can meet up on campus in a few months.

As an update, I received my schedule today (pre emptive I am sure as they were supposed to be out only 10 Aug) so if there is anyone in this program, let me know. My 1st day in is math! Great :yuck:

Coming from years of working and having $ to overall do as I please, this is going to be a huge adjustment to my life. If there is anyone going to Seneca, let's talk.

Hello, I just completed the Pre-Health Science program at Seneca this past year and am going to be starting the Practical Nursing program in January. Let me know if you have any questions! :)

Thanks for the responce Lilac11

What was the workload like during the semesters? How many hours of homework did you average per day?

as there a lot of work per class or mainly studying?

Also, how difficult was the math and chemistry from 1 to 10?

Any tips or advise you can give a new student entering the program?

I am thinking of buying a digital recorder so I can relisten to lectures. From your experience, do you think this is wise?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry for the late response; didn't see it until now!

I would say that the Pre-Health program isn't that hard but is a lot of work. Of course, this is coming from someone who is strong in the maths/sciences so I realize it might not be this way for everyone. If I had to rate the math I'd give it a 3, and the chemistry I'd give a 5. It also depends on what courses you've taken in the past; I took math and chemistry at the U level in grade 12, so I'd already covered most of the material previously (albeit years ago!) I never took a straight biology class before Pre-Health, but I took anatomy and physiology when I studied animal care a few years back so there was some overlap. How difficult you'll find these classes all depends on whether or not you've studied similar material before. Some people didn't have much of a background in math/chemistry, and it was really challenging for them.

My advice would be to hang around class slightly before and after class and ask the teachers questions; show that you want to make the most out of your time there. A digital recorder really isn't necessary as most teachers post their powerpoints on Blackboard. However, still develop your note taking skills as teachers won't do this once you enter your nursing program!

Good luck!
