High School Average for RPN

I have been a silent reader for a while and finally decided to register today. There is a lot of informative posts on here and I appreciate this forum

Just a quick question: When the colleges/universities calculate your average, do they count your overall average from HS or do they only calculate the average for the "required" classes? I have applied for the RPN program at Algonquin

The requirements are as follows:

- English Grade 12 (ENG4C or equivalent).

- Mathematics Grade 12 (MAP4C or equivalent) with a grade of 65% or higher.

- Biology Grade 11 or 12 (SBI3C or equivalent) with a grade of 65% or higher.

- Chemistry Grade 11 or 12 (SCH4C or equivalent) with a grade of 65% or higher.

Mohawk's RPN program only looks at the average of the 4 prerequisites! They ask for grade 12 English, grade 12 math, 2 senior sciences. I heard that the average to get in was over 90% bc it is so competitive! We were told only 100 out of 1200 applicants were accepted!

Mohawk also offers a PSW to RPN bridging course. About 20 PSWs are accepted each cycle to do one semester with two bridging courses, and then enter semester 2 of the RPN program. But the psws still need to have the 4 prerequisites in order to write the HOAE and be accepted in bridging.

Okay, I just went through the selection process for Algonquin college and it says they only use the average for the prerequisites as well. It's also a very competitive program in Ottawa so I won't be surprised if the cut-off average is high. I also applied for the Pre-Nursing program and the program coordinator said students who keep an average of 3 are automatically registered in the Nursing program, which is great!

Good luck getting into the practical nursing program :) I'm interested in attending Algonquin College as well but for the bachelor of science in nursing.

I'm not sure about Algonquin, but I know Mohawk was really competitive...like the above poster said...100 spots for over 1000 applicants. I went to Mohawk and had Pre-Health, as well as a high mark on the HOAE test. I'm not sure if Algonquin does the HOAE admission test, but I would aim for at the very least an 80% average.
