RPNs in Mother-Baby in Ontario?
Oh wow that's so interesting! And actually very smart, because I remember having to shadow a nurse who was providing education to a new mum who didn't speak English and had to wait for the husband to translate everything to the wife. It was VERY time consuming and the nurse was slightly frustrated as she had a full load of patients. I do know 3 other languages besides English (not French though), so I will be sure to add this to my skills. Thanks for sharing this! PS. I can't believe we have to wait so long before posting a new comment lol

RPNs in Mother-Baby in Ontario?
Thanks so much for your input--I think getting to know the nurse manager and other staff is the way to go. My very first rotation was in the mother-baby unit but I don't remember much about the ratio of RN to RPNs, it was a very short rotation and we mostly were only concerned with assessments.

RPNs in Mother-Baby in Ontario?
I will be starting my preceptorship at the mother-baby unit as a student PN. This was one of my top choices so I'm extremely happy. I was wondering though, do RPNs usually work on this floor? And do they hire new grads at all? I know it's a tough unit to get in to and probably a lot of competition, but any advice is welcome!

Algonquin College RPN program
Quiet a few of the students in my program are from the Pre-health/Pre-nursing and they needed a 3.6GPA to be able to get in. For me, my high school average wasn't that great (B+) but I did excellent on the HOAE test and got in. I think at the time I applied, the average was around 70% (as listed on the AC website) but of course, the average cut-off goes up depending on the number of applicants. I'm sure you will get in, good luck!

Bridging
Does anyone know what the GPA requirement is to bridge from RPN to RN in UOttawa? I currently have a 3.41 and I know the program can be super competitive. Should I be worried? Also I remember seeing somewhere that you need to have a 4.0 GPA in the first full-time year at UOttawa to be able to get admission into year 3 of the RN program; does that mean you need like an A+ or is UOttawa's GPA system different?

Second-Entry Nursing Programs - 2014 Hopeful
Hey everyone. I'm currently in my first year of the RPN program at Algonquin College and was exploring my options of getting in to the RN program without having to do the bridging as it will take me 5+ years! I have done 2 years of BSc at uOttawa (did not complete it as I switched to the RPN program). I seem to have all of the prerequisites except the Stats and Research methods. What courses have you taken to complete those two requirements? I know they have a list of courses on the uOttawa website, but most of them seems to be reserved for students of a specific major. I hope someone is able to help me. I haven't spoken to anyone at the school yet, but I'm hoping to get a head start from here.

High School Average for RPN
Thanks Melissa! Okay, I just went through the selection process for Algonquin college and it says they only use the average for the prerequisites as well. It's also a very competitive program in Ottawa so I won't be surprised if the cut-off average is high. I also applied for the Pre-Nursing program and the program coordinator said students who keep an average of 3 are automatically registered in the Nursing program, which is great!

High School Average for RPN
Hey everyone! I have been a silent reader for a while and finally decided to register today. There is a lot of informative posts on here and I appreciate this forum Just a quick question: When the colleges/universities calculate your average, do they count your overall average from HS or do they only calculate the average for the "required" classes? I have applied for the RPN program at Algonquin The requirements are as follows: - English Grade 12 (ENG4C or equivalent). - Mathematics Grade 12 (MAP4C or equivalent) with a grade of 65% or higher. - Biology Grade 11 or 12 (SBI3C or equivalent) with a grade of 65% or higher. - Chemistry Grade 11 or 12 (SCH4C or equivalent) with a grade of 65% or higher.
