Has anyone heard of the Association of Camp Nurses? www.acn.org

It looks like they have a great quarterly CompassPoint journal all about camp nursing.

They are also hosting a Symposium in Orlando, FL Feb. 4-6, 2014 and let you earn CEUs. That would be great to go to. Just thought I'd see if any of you have heard of them.

Thanks!

I have been a member for a year now. Compass point is pretty good. I would love to attend the conference but all told it would cost me about $1000 to go with travel expenses, and I'm not sure it would be worth it.

I have been a member for 3 years. I went to the symposium in Atlanta and will be going to the next symposium in Orlando. I also live in Florida so I just drive to the meetings. The camp I ended up working at last year was with a nurse I met at the Atlanta mtg. I will be staying with her in Orlando too. I enjoy the symposium because your with a bunch of camp nurses who do and like what you like. There are job connections there too.

I joined ACN in 2012. Compass Point has tons of good information, and so does the Basics of Camp Nursing book. If there's ever a symposium in Detroit or Chicago I might go, but I can't afford the travel anywhere else.

I just joined ACN since I'm a new camp nurse. I hope its worth it.

LPN seasons are helpful. Less paperwork and startup headache. Are you the only nurse? I'm starting to get pretty excited. Not long until camp!

I am one of two nurses. I'm excited too!!

Oh and we use campdoc

That's the perfect number if nurses for that many campers. I'm not familiar with camp doc. We use camp site. I think it's all pretty close. Will you have an insure physician? I love having the doc on site or at least visit daily.

I'm a big fan of ACN. Compasspoint is an awesome resource. I save all my old issues up at camp and often reference them. They also give grants for nursing research if you interested in that end of things. This year they also negotiated a 15% discount with Moore Medical for all their members so that can be a significant savings if you go through as many bandaids as I do at camp. They also do "triage calls" if you have practice questions or questions about if your camp is doing something right. Their executive director is great and she's talked me down from a few difficult situations before. They are a fantastic resource and I highly recommend membership for all camp nurses.
