Hi, I was wondering if any one has gone to Xavier in Stockton? What your experience was like. I think it is a newer program. If you know if they are going to offer a RN program. Thanks

i graduated from xavier college in november..............yes it is a newer school, but the pass rate for your lvn boards, is pretty good. xavier college is an 11 month accelerated program. it is extremely tough to keep up with the schecule but do able i guess. good luck

Thanks for your response. I am looking to go back to school and trying to decide where to go or should I say who will take me:icon_roll I was in the delta RN program 9 years ago but stopped to have my daughter and 2 more  So I went back in Oct. to get info and was told that because they changed the way you get in my science grades were to low but they do not allow redo. Any way thats a long story. I really want an RN program because I want to work labor/delivery and I hear not many LVN work in that department. Are you planning on becoming an RN and if so were are you going? What was the daily schedule like for Xavier? I was hoping to be in school when my kids are in school. Do you feel like you received a quality education? What are the costs? Where did you do your clinicals? How was the summer schedule? Sorry for all the questions but I really appreciate any advice that you have. Thanks

It's an expensive program that's more interested in producing a profit than producing well-prepared nurses. I would stay away from any program that does not have competative admissions and allows most anyone who is breathing get in. The crowd that usually goes to this school is the same that watches Jerry Springer reruns and over-dines at Hometown Buffet.

IndyColts - do you have any personal knowledge of the school or are you just generalizing?

For wupar, I'm considering going to Xavier in January 2010 and would like to communicate with someone who has attended school there.

And for lovetospa, did you wind up getting into a nursing school?

Would love to hear from you and get any of your feedback. TIA

To answer your question I have not gone back yet. Since it has been so long since I did my pre -reqs I will most likely have to do them over. So I am looking to start that in the next 6 months. I am trying to spend as much time with my kids while they are still young. :) Good luck to you!

Xavier, WCC, and Kaplan will take anyone with a pulse and then they are thrust on poor unsuspecting patients in the community when they do their clinical. A friend of mine is a nurse at The County and she says the nurses don't trust the students when they are there and the instructor is rarely available. Plus, she said the students look like slobs and are unprofessional.

You might want to know what your talking about before you start going off on a school and students. I graduated in May of '09. We had no problem with anyone at the county. Most of the nurses said they preferred us over delta students. You just sound like a bitter, angry person who was REJECTED by Xavier. It's too bad, people like you spread rumors about a school, that are totally untrue.

steffers - I start Xavier on Jan 4th. I'm looking forward to it. Dr. Miller said the Xavier class with the highest NCLEX pass rate was the May '09 one.

Hello Plaza!

Congrats on starting in January! Don't listen to the haters on here either. They think that since its a private school, they will take anyone "with a pulse". You know what, they do take people on first come first serve, but you still have to pass EVERYTHING or you get booted. I now work at an Alzheimers facility in the bay area and make 35/hr, and they said that I was one of the best new grads they had seen in a while! =] Good luck, and take it serious and you will do so well!

They already have a curriculum for the RN program but need WASC approval which is pending and a bigger building from how I understand it.

THey'll have it down the road. The Director of the Program is a DOctoral Degree Nurse from Columbia University (Ivy League), in New York and is extremely sharper than your average director out there from Acadamia. She taught @ NYU, etc and was one of the highest ranking Nurse Managers in the V.A. and won congressional recognition awards for her actions in response to disaster preparedness after the 9/11 attacks which occured near her hospital in Manhattan New York.

I find it interesting that many Xavier gradutes actually are working in the acute care settings in and around Stockton. St. Josephs has a few Xavier new grads, Dameron, etc. That says a ton about the program since most new grad LVNs are usually direct to Long Term Care for a while before Acute Hospitals will even look @ them.

Don't let Xavier's pass rate fool you either. Those lower pass rates were from the first few classes, now they're above 90% their last few and it's a legitimate report, not a padded pass rate like some schools do where they only pass people they know will pass the NCLEX, take the others money they know they won't and screw them

It's a very good program with one of the most highly educated Nurse Educators in the Country running it.

And that's a fact.

The college is very selective in their admission process. It is first come first serve but they target a select group of self motivated mature and educated type students (Not just people off the street), that can successfully negotiate the insane schedule the program demands.

My niece went there and is was one of their top students now working in State Nursing Agency which is unheard of as a new grad.

I recommend Xavier to anyone wishing an organized, legitimate program with a former Ivy League Level Nursing Professor as the director. The school is small and wants to stay small and off the general radar. It's mission isnt to bank $$$, but to produce legitimate nurses who think out of the box vs watered down task oriented nurses.

Alot of integrity among the instructors too, very interacitve with the students.

Overall would you say it was a good school? Did you feel prepared to pass the exam ? Do you know what employers have to say about Xavier college? What all is required for admissions?I am really looking into going to this school, but I want some reviews first... please && thanks :nurse:
