Xavier in Stockton
Hello Raeylnn! I loved Xavier. Go to the Ca BVN and see the pass rates. Xavier has an 88% rate for last year, HIgher than Delta College! There is alot of haters out there because the school is private, but don't mind them, they are just ignorant. You don't get an 88% pass rate for the NCLEX without doing something right! I would recommend it!

I'm so not a teacher!
So I'm a new nurse who has been working in an Alzheimers for about 4 months and the DON wants me to train a new nurse! Oh and btw you will start tonight and you don't have a choice! I was like I'm a NEW nurse! I'm sooo not a teacher, I just have like Zero patience! So my question to all ya'll is how do you guys effectively orient/teach a new graduate?! Especially when [not to be mean], but the new nurse hasn't been catching on with the few days she has been orienting! I need some advice! :heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeat Thanks!

Xavier in Stockton
Hello Plaza! Congrats on starting in January! Don't listen to the haters on here either. They think that since its a private school, they will take anyone "with a pulse". You know what, they do take people on first come first serve, but you still have to pass EVERYTHING or you get booted. I now work at an Alzheimers facility in the bay area and make 35/hr, and they said that I was one of the best new grads they had seen in a while! =] Good luck, and take it serious and you will do so well!

$35.00/hr.!!
Update: I feel VERY blessed. I currently have 16 patients. No feeding tubes, no foleys. Minimal, basic treatments. Charting is a ALOT, but hey I can't have everything. I'm on Days for now, and I'm usually done with everything, except I&O's, by like 12:30. It's very crazy and awesome. I don't know how I got so lucky! All I can say is Never give up on the job search! We all eventually find something!

Indy Colts: You might want to know what your talking about before you start going off on a school and students. I graduated in May of '09. We had no problem with anyone at the county. Most of the nurses said they preferred us over delta students. You just sound like a bitter, angry person who was REJECTED by Xavier. It's too bad, people like you spread rumors about a school, that are totally untrue.

$35.00/hr.!!
Wow... So I interviewed about 2 weeks ago for this NOC position at a SNF in Northern Ca, but unfortunately they filled that position with someone else, but they told me that I was their second choice.:icon_roll Fastforward to today. I get a call from the DON and she said she had a full time Day positon available, and that she was offering it to me! Then the kicker, she said it paid 35.00/hr!, I knew that, but thought that was for RN, not LVN! and especially NOT a new grad! That is with Benefits, and Full time! It's a 49 bed Alzheimers facility, so I will approx have like 15 patients!! (not 50 like I have now:cool:) Oh my goodness, I have been working at this TERRIBLE SNF oncall, and I mean TERRIBLE, so I said Adios today! All I have to say to all the new grads is that something willl EVENTUALLY happen for you!! It did for me! I can't wait

help?! PEG tube incident
Wow, I'm surprised that in all your clinicals that you did while in school you NEVER had a patient with a PEG tube! . eh, maybe it's just me...I mean I'm a LVN and granted, we did do clinicals in a SNF for about 2 months, but were in Acute for alomst 8 months! I think I saw about the same amount of PEGS in each place! Anyways, like some others posted above I think the best thing is Warm water and crush, crush, crush those meds! You'll be fine though, everyone makes mistakes right?! Just curious though, did you crush the pills before you administered them?

Will I ever become a nurse?!
Good luck with everything!! I went the PN route just so I could get my foot in the door, and maybe make it easier to bridge to RN!! If it makes you feel any better I know someone who works in the nursing program at my local Community College and you know how many people applied to the RN program last semester alone: 637!!!!! oh and btw they only accept 30! That is friekin Crazy! They told me that people with STRAIGHT A's didn't even get in!! There was supposedly people lined up outside the Admissions office TWO days in Advance. Some diehard People were friekin sleeping at the school, so that they could be first in line. Security was there and allowed them to stay in a secure area and gave them "official" line numbers so no one tried to cut. lol. Getting into the program is based on Grades, but if everyone has straight A's then it's based on who turned theres in first. Imagine, not getting in with straight A's, because you weren't willing to sleep in line!!

Sick of being a LPN
Wow egglady, your a little harsh. Everyone has the right to have an opinion and to have feelings without being told to grow a backbone. Sheesh!! Plus what does you having been an LVN for a "hundred years" have to do with ANYTHING?! What, because you have been an LVN for longer means that you know more about what she is feeling?! That my dear was YOUR choice not to continue your education! I personally don't know ANY LVN's who want to just stay at being an LVN. It's just a stepping stone for most.(AND YES, I KNOW NOT ALL LVN'S WANT TO BE RN'S, AND ARE CONTENT AS AN LVN.) Oh and btw, congrats on getting into a bridge program Lilaclover that's awesome:yeah:. I want to start Indiana state, but I need that JOB so I can pay for it:cool:.

Sick of being a LPN
I haven't even started working as an LVN yet, and I too feel the same way as you. I'm so sick of people asking why, I didn't go get my RN, because "it can't be that hard to get into to". People have NO CLUe! BLAH!

THat's crazzzy:eek:. I'm crossing my fingers that I get the job!! The girl said she preffered new grads! :loveya:
