Western Career College Sacramento LVN Program?

I had posted a similar thread in the LVN student forum not too long ago, but didn't get any responses so I thought maybe I would have better luck posting in the California forum. Has anyone attended this program at the Sacramento campus, and what was your experience like with applying? I took their cpat exam Thursday evening after the required LVN info meeting, and was told along with the others that took it our rep would call us the next day. Friday came and no call, I left a message for my rep and she did not call back. I am not concerned that I did not pass, the exam was a joke, too easy. Maybe just a busy Friday for the school? Just wishing someone would call me back! I have all my RN prereqs done, I just don't want to wait semester after semester to get in via the CCs around here, so I'm trying for LVN first and bridge later. Also, can anyone tell me about their financial aid experience? I know I qualify for grants and loans, however I am concerned if loans will cover the rest of what grants won't.

I don't know anything about this school's program in Sacramento..

I guess my question is if you have all of your pre-reqs for an RN program then why not go through an LVN program at your community college... then you can transfer into their RN program... and save yourself thousands of $$.... just a thought.

well my issue is, people out in the sac area can wait a long time to get into a lottery adn program. or even a lottery lvn program. sure i could get lucky, but at this point going to school on and off for so long, i just can't risk waiting. i am so ready to just be in a nursing program. so my plan for now is to maybe do the western lvn program and work in ltc or something for awhile (i'm not expecting a hospital job, i know what it's like out here for lvn's) and then bridge via community college later. since i have my prereqs done through the community college system, i should have no problem bridging later.

i almost did the western career college LVN program in Sac. I went to the campus took all the required exams, and met with a financial aid advisor. I think when i met with the financial aid lady she told me that the max to receive for grants was 5k and then the rest would have to be covered through loans. Which i think was around 23k left if i remember correctly. She told me that if i really wanted to do the program, there were different types of loans, that they could help me out with. So, if you really want to do the program, i'm pretty sure western will help you find a way to pay the rest off with loans.

I actually attended the program at Western Career in Sac...but only for the 1st semester. I had the same mindset as you did about not wanting to wait to get in to a lottery school and thinking that just getting in and doing the bridge would be the fastest way.

As far as the financial aid, you will get a financial aid advisor and they will work out everything with you. Keep in mind, it is a very VERY expensive program. When I went about 2 years ago it was $42000 for just the LVN, and an additional $36000 for the bridge. I paid over $10000 for just the first class, 4 months long, and I felt like I was in the 5th grade at the school. Things may have changed since then though.

The first class was very disorganized, my clinical teacher would talk smack about the other teachers and the other students to us while we were at clinical. It was a very unprofessional program...and they don't go to any of the big hospitals in the area. We were at a convalescent home the whole semester.

I posted a question on this website while I was going there asking for opinions of people that had completed the course and what they really thought of it, and I had the Dean pulling me out of class the next day demanding that I remove my post and stating that I needed to go to her about my dissatisfaction.

I did get in at a local community college, after 1 year of applying, and couldn't be happier with the course. If you don't care about the price of the program, and dealing with the unprofessionalism, then I would say go the Western, at least you'll get in fast.

Also, classes taken at Western won't transfer out of Western.
