West Coast University Nursing Program Questions, Please Help!

U.S.A. California

Published

I am from Hawaii and really interested in transferring to WCU asap. I've taken the majority of all the pre-reqs but not sure if the pre-reqs I've taken here are equivalent to the classes at WCU. So, if anyone knows if there's a credit transfer database or website that can tell me what classes are equivalent to WCU. any additional information is helpful too. I've spoken to a counselor and she was nice but demanded that I find all information on the website. unfortunately, I am all the way here in Hawaii and cannot go to Anaheim until this summer and wanted to know more information before I go. I hope someone can help me or provide me with some kind of information.

thanks!!! :lol2:

Staff Update

If interested in what others have to say about West Coast University please take a look at our West Coast University | Peer Reviews.

So....West Coast University is accredited by the CCNE. So that means that we will probably be able to trasnfer to another school to get the MSN.

Im not too worried. Im still looking into applying at Loma Linda University and San Bernardino.

Has anyone hear good or bad from San Bernardinos program? Or froms Loma Lindas?

Kinda Curious

IS ANYONE IN WEST COAST UNIVERSITYS PROGRAM!?!?! I really want to know yoru input on the school!!! I may be going thier next feb but I am not quite sure. My 5 year time limit on classes is running out!

If anyone is going or has a friend there, could you please have them give us some in sight to the school!

Keep looking, I don't think you will be happy there. You are guaranteed to have issues with financial aid, teachers, curriculum and meeting the hesi requirements.

BUT.....

There is No a big difference because its all PRIVATE. Private gets you a "better" education $$ money wise (gets you done quicker, in most cases), but it might not allow you to get as much on hands activity that a regular Community college would. Loma Linda CBU WCU all have great programs but they are expensive, so is WCU. You cant freak out about the cost, because while everyone else is doing Community (because it fits THIER life style), you can get started right away and finish a lot sooner. You pay the big bucks to get done, while other folks generally will have to wait because they either can not afford it, have classes canceled, cant get in, or just simply want to get the AA and not the BSN.

Just want to point out that there are two different kinds of "Private" schools. There are not-for-profit private schools (think Yale and Harvard) and then there are FOR profit Private schools like WCU and University of Phoenix and ITT TEch. These for profit schools are NOT known for providing a better education, their admission standards tend to be much lower (often the standard is....do you have a way to pay for this?) Often these schools are known for providing much less education....however they are incredibly expensive.

I hope that helps. You cant freak out about the costs. Seems everyones post are all about money. If you dont want to spend the money then you have to wait, for to a different state, or be more persistant with getting into a very CROWDED school. Most school CSUF CSSB are all crowded, so there is a lot of compitition. Do you research on all the schools and make sure your on the right track.

These programs can't be "crowded" because the State Board of Nursing decides how many students there can be per instructor.

AGAIN!!!!!!

Im still wondering if WCU BSN will transfer out to other colleges so I can get my MSN. No nurse on here or student has been able to answer that question. It seems to be a perplex answer, and it makes me definately re think about going there this Novemeber. Obviously West Coast is accredited, so I dont see why their BSN cant transfer to another school for me to get my MSN.

kaiser permanente school of anesthesia for nurses, samuel merrit college, and or university of southern california...I too am looking into those as well.

Anyone with answers or even the slighest knowledge please reply for us!

Thankyou!!!!! :):):):):)

The only way to know the answer to the this quesiton is to speak with the admissions folks at the schools you're looking to get your masters at (U of SC, Samuel Merrit, etc). Just because they have a certain accreditation....doesn't mean these credits will be accepted.

OCstudent: is definatley right. Look I went to Cal Baptist Univ. (just to get my pre reqs done) but it was also very expensive. Think of it this way, if I was spending about 10,000 on school @ CBU(not including books, scrubs, papers, pens, etc.) :bugeyes:The 10,000 would probably raise each semester just for me to pay for the extra stuff (the things i alredy listed), so technically I would be spending about the same since it takes about 2 years just to do pre reqs, unless your a driven student who does summer classes. In all at CBU from start to finish takes about 5 to 6 years to get your BSN.

CBU is a private university, but you will probbaly come out spending just the same amount of money, around 100,000. Also CBU gives you a SUMMER BREAK. As for myself I like to continually study, with no breaks. Im a person who will forget things if i have a huge long summer breaks, and CBU's breaks are very long. So for me, I think WCU is a good thing since there semesters dont stop going. I KNOW IM CRAZY HAHA.

In regards to credit transfers, no offense, but you have to physically go out and do the work yourself. I too am very interested in attaining a masters but it seems so many seem to be caught up in the $$$$ in a CRNA profession. Start nursing school, see what areas you excel in, then decide.

I looked into all those schools myself and the answer is NO they do not transfer the credits from WCU since they are looking for a WASC accreditation.

So please, don't rely on others' heresay on here since I believe i read here that CSUF & USC do accept WCU units. they're wrong and I found that out from admission reps from those schools.

Future advice... do the work to get the answer.

Update for me...

Yes I did a LOT of work on my own. Ater I posted that and talked to a bunch of counselors, I went out and got the answers I needed.

Im stayin away from West Coast. Its expensive, and honestly all the bull that everyone complains about is just thier own personal opinion. No more asking others what they think. It got me NO WHERE.

I found out that I can get my BS in Health/Allied Science with a concentration in Public Health and a Minor in Business. That I can finish by next year Fall 2011.

Then Ill go look into the master programs, and/or the second degree programs.

I just appreicate how honest everyone is on this website. It lets me learn a little bit more about what to expect when I get into a nurisng program. So thanks. :)

you can transfer the math & english classes, psych, anatomy, physiology, and chemistry. can't remember if i missed any.

Life span Psychology = Developmental Psychology it also transfer.

If you go to WCU, I doubt you will learn anything! I know a lot of students who are going there right now and everything that they do is BS. A lot of students are just sharing answers, copying and pasting answers online (yes, some instructors even encourage them to do that thinking they'll learn from it but in reality, no), and just basically BSing everything! Most of the students are barely passing but still passing, which is very questionable. Pstudent can fail twice and get kicked out, which is understandable because you would NOT want to have a nurse who does not know what they are doing. Would you? YET, they let students re-enroll after failing! That just shows how much that school wants their money.

WCU is just pure BS.

They have a good B.S.N program there but it's only that it is more expensive. I know some people who graduated from this school they a good nurses and are working in Acute Hospitals. it depends whether the person is willing to learn or not. National University is cheaper than WCU.

I just graduated last May with a BA in KLS. I needed a few Pre-reqs before I am able to apply to a Cal State/UC Masters Entry Nursing Program. Instead of completing these classes at my graduated school I decided to complete them at a CC/JC. It has almost been a YEAR and I still have yet completed a pre-req class due do over crowding within the CC system. I have taken the HESI and enrolled at WCU and was pretty excited to get the ball rolling...I planned on going through the BSN program and then do the masters but after reading some of these comments I am a little scared and confused. Not sure if I should take the plunge. ANY ADVISE?!?! PLEASE HELP!!!
