West Coast University Nursing Program Questions, Please Help!

U.S.A. California

Published

I am from Hawaii and really interested in transferring to WCU asap. I've taken the majority of all the pre-reqs but not sure if the pre-reqs I've taken here are equivalent to the classes at WCU. So, if anyone knows if there's a credit transfer database or website that can tell me what classes are equivalent to WCU. any additional information is helpful too. I've spoken to a counselor and she was nice but demanded that I find all information on the website. unfortunately, I am all the way here in Hawaii and cannot go to Anaheim until this summer and wanted to know more information before I go. I hope someone can help me or provide me with some kind of information.

thanks!!! :lol2:

Thank you for your advice, Tiramisue. So does your friend's brother-in-law can get job after graduating? What hospital is he working right now? Well, I need money to support even myself and my parents. I must work. That is program does not fit my situation.

My friend's bro In law does work but I dunno where. Him and his wife are both nurses. The wife went to rcc for her rn after getting her lvn through the military. He really really liked the program there. He was like the president of their nursing club or association or something. That same fiend's little bro now has also just started there. They must really like it. I would go there but I'm like you. I can't afford not to work for the three years. I'm looking into other schools now. I'm actually looking at everest college In Ontario for an associates degree. Many people have opinions (good and bad) about that place but I have talked to a few people going their and that are planning to go there and they only have good things to say about it. I'm doing my research. I would go the community college route but it is taking me along time to get into the classes. I have friends that are two years waiting to get into the prereq classes like anatomy and microbiology. I would have to wait forever to get mt degree that way.

For PIINK or anyone else going to WCU...I'm finding it impossible to get a response from anyone lol so hopefully someone will reply here.....

Would you suggest the NOHO or Anaheim campus?

I live in Orange County so Anaheim is closer for me but I've heard better things about the NOHO campus and its teachers....

Also,

Were you able to get your entire tuition covered with financial aid: loans and grants together?

I know I qualify as an independent, and get good money with grants at my CC.....I have a good credit score so I'm hoping I could get loans for whatever grants don't cover.......were you left with a remainder you had to pay out of pocket?

That's all I'm worried about because I have no extra money to pay out of pocket....

Thanks so much!

Dear Piink ,

Could you please kindly asnwer me about the tuition fee in WCU ?

Did you mean there are totally 8 semesters ( prerequisites + BSN programs ) ? And it cost $9000 for each semesters ? Then it is about $72 000 to complete the whole BSN ?

Please correct me if I get it wrong :)

Thank you so much for your patience.

well im not sure about the resident & nonresident tuition, but it is about $9,000 per semester considering your a full time student and $6,000 per semester if you are half time.

I'm not sure but I think i'm paying $5,000 per semester because I received financial aid and pell grant..

I'm going for the BSN program for RN so i'm not sure which one your going for, but mine takes 39 months (a little over 3 years) including the prerequisites which is 8 semesters (16 terms) but if you take all there pre req's at a community college, you'll be going for 5 semesters. in my case i took the classes my school had so now when i start in june, ill be going for 6 semesters.

So I went for admissions and a financial aid appointment.

I really loved the Anaheim campus, and while costly, I wanted to go for it, especially because it was recently accredited by CCNE.

The entire BSN program came out to be around $130,000...including books and and everything.

Tuition per semester was $15,000.

However after getting that number, I was able to knock off about $4,000 from transferring two classes.

Federal Loans and Grants together would cover $50,000, leaving me to find a PRIVATE student loan to cover the remaining $75,000 (approx.)

Unfortunately I wasn't able to get this covered. I had no great co-signer. If their credit was good, they still lacked a good income-debt ratio.

I'm taking a different route now, going for my LVN at an accredited school and then I want to do a bridge program or go through a cal state for my BSN (since I will be working as an LVN and able to afford to take my time with a BSN).

I still may end up going back to WCU considering after my LVN I may be able to transfer more classes, thus lowering my tuition.

ocstudent1: I think noho campus will be much nicer. iT is a newer campus and the rep that I talked to is very nice. I went to orange county campus, omg, the lady that i talked to was bad mouthing the noho campus and to be honest she's suck. She doesnt even care basicly if you can come out with that money or not and she seems snoby too.

i have a question? im thinkn about going to WCU and i like the duration of the rn program. I just wanted to know if there is n e one out there that knows if... (after completing this program), the credits obtained here, would be transferable into either one of the three nurse anesthesia programs in California. ( kaiser permanente school of anesthesia for nurses, samuel merrit college, and or university of southern california). please help me!!!

wow. thats alot to have to borrow i had no idea. i wish there was another program out there like wcu but not as expensive

It is expensive, but ALL private schools for a BSN will be around the same price. It's the price you pay for a faster track. The only way to avoid the cost is go through a community college and transferring.

OCstudent: is definatley right. Look I went to Cal Baptist Univ. (just to get my pre reqs done) but it was also very expensive. Think of it this way, if I was spending about 10,000 on school @ CBU(not including books, scrubs, papers, pens, etc.) :bugeyes:The 10,000 would probably raise each semester just for me to pay for the extra stuff (the things i alredy listed), so technically I would be spending about the same since it takes about 2 years just to do pre reqs, unless your a driven student who does summer classes. In all at CBU from start to finish takes about 5 to 6 years to get your BSN.

CBU is a private university, but you will probbaly come out spending just the same amount of money, around 100,000. Also CBU gives you a SUMMER BREAK. As for myself I like to continually study, with no breaks. Im a person who will forget things if i have a huge long summer breaks, and CBU's breaks are very long. So for me, I think WCU is a good thing since there semesters dont stop going. I KNOW IM CRAZY HAHA.

BUT.....

There is No a big difference because its all PRIVATE. Private gets you a "better" education $$ money wise (gets you done quicker, in most cases), but it might not allow you to get as much on hands activity that a regular Community college would. Loma Linda CBU WCU all have great programs but they are expensive, so is WCU. You cant freak out about the cost, because while everyone else is doing Community (because it fits THIER life style), you can get started right away and finish a lot sooner. You pay the big bucks to get done, while other folks generally will have to wait because they either can not afford it, have classes canceled, cant get in, or just simply want to get the AA and not the BSN.

I hope that helps. You cant freak out about the costs. Seems everyones post are all about money. If you dont want to spend the money then you have to wait, for to a different state, or be more persistant with getting into a very CROWDED school. Most school CSUF CSSB are all crowded, so there is a lot of compitition. Do you research on all the schools and make sure your on the right track.

AGAIN!!!!!!

Im still wondering if WCU BSN will transfer out to other colleges so I can get my MSN. No nurse on here or student has been able to answer that question. It seems to be a perplex answer, and it makes me definately re think about going there this Novemeber. Obviously West Coast is accredited, so I dont see why their BSN cant transfer to another school for me to get my MSN.

kaiser permanente school of anesthesia for nurses, samuel merrit college, and or university of southern california...I too am looking into those as well.

Anyone with answers or even the slighest knowledge please reply for us!

Thankyou!!!!! :):):):):)

thank u so much on responding back to me (newbetonursing). I really dont have time on my side as far as going to a community college. I have four kids and i tryn to get my career goal accomplished. im still going to do a little research about the other schools u listed as well (kaiser permanente etc...) let me know if u found out n e thing. Thanks again

:)

Ask the campus representative to email or send you their list of pre-requisites so that you can try to compare your classes with those they require. There are some upper division classes in their BSN that are not normally required in the Associate degree level program.
