I know I'm way ahead of schedule, but I'm trying to gather as much info as I can about applying to Sonoma State University's nursing program here in CA. If anyone has any details on criteria other than on their site I would be ever so grateful.

I have a few more classes to take this summer and fall but should be done with all prerequisites other than speech before applying next spring 2014. I'll have speech in progress in spring '14 semester.

I am CNA certified, volunteer at Marin General in Kentfield, volunteer at Hospice By The Bay in Larkspur. I live in Marin County and have a 3.9 GPA and highly anticipate to keep that through the year and in my core sciences.

My only hitch is I have mediocre grades from my college years 16 years ago. With my current GPA of 3.9 I'll only have a 3.0 overall GPA. I'm worried about that spoiling any chances of having a competitive edge. Do you think it will?

I will be applying to other schools I just prefer SSU. If anyone has any experience or insight into what one needs to make the cut I'd be grateful!

I received an e-mail last week, getting rejected from Sonoma State. I guess I lost a lot of points by not living in their county! Oh well… Who else heard ?

Did you hear back? I know SSU does count those old grades, so I'm guessing your lower GPA is what will be counted. The only exception is if you're a second bacc student, in which case, they only count the last 60 units.

Runbabyrun I decided not to apply. Looking like I've got a great chance to get into COM's ADN program which means that I could do the RN-BSN bridge at SSU. I am more than fine with that scenario

I did. The instructors were great, and the skills lab was quite nice (I've seen a few others). They have an AMAZING sim lab (assuming Edward is still there to run it!).

Hey all, I was accepted at SSU two weeks ago in their transfer program for Bachelors Students, and looks like I will get in to COM as well. At COM I am 24 out of 143 in the lottery and they will announce winners soon after they receive all the TEAS results.

QUESTION: Can anyone tell me about the Skills LAB facilities at SSU? I just finished CNA program at SRJC and they tell me that SSU students were using their Skills LAB in Race Building, which leads me to wonder what SSU facility is like. I know that COM has a brand new building for teaching skills and lectures, and SRJC Race Building is very nice, state of the art.

Look forward to networking with you all here, and meeting students who may be in my cohort this fall. Happy to answer any questions that I can. I have taken courses at COM, SRJC, and Grossmont College in San Diego.

Hey beth2366 do you think you'll take your spot at COM or SSU? I only ask because I'm #47 at COM and trying to gauge my chances of getting in.

@mswtruth Pretty sure I will be at SSU. Trying to gather information now about the differences between programs, besides obvious BSN vs ADN. I know COM has a great new building and all the labs are new. Can anyone shine some light? And thanks to Runbabyrun for her comment! Would love to know more about COM and SSU RN programs. Where were your clinicals for each school? SSU has a mentorship program which looks great. How big are cohorts?
