So we're all jobless, MSN anyone?

With the job market being so stagnant for us new grads, I've been exploring the possiblity of going back to school. I graduated Dec 2009, currently working per diem and have not had any luck finding a new grad acute med/surg program.

With that in mind, does anyone know any MSN programs that DO NOT REQUIRE EXPERIENCE? I'm not looking to move out of California, hence, this is in the California forum. I'm looking for a school IN CALIFORNIA, preferrably in Sacramento or Bay Area.

Try SJSU. Their grad school accepted one of my classmates before she finished the BSN and she had never worked a day in healthcare.

I moved way out into the boonies for a job that "didn't work out" and also started thinking about getting my Masters online, because there are zero colleges around me now. But all the online ones I have found - all require 1 year of experience! Another dead end. But then I was thinking I wanted to get into Public Health, and if I want to start an online masters in public health, I can totally do that online without prerequisites! So maybe. But in the mean time I am volunteering at local health departments. I picked one I liked out of the phone book and emailed them my resume and they ccalled me and they love me! I am their first volunteer, we work with 0-5 year old children. My first day was yesterday. It was great. One of the ladies stated if I worked out, they'd find me a permanent position - because nobody at this place has nursing skills so I could do education, trainings, immunizations, anything. And I love that stuff. O man I hope I hope. So, if you can't find a job, create your dream job!!!! I am : ) and I love it. Best Wishes:twocents:

ps you can also look at americorps.gov and get a job as a VISTA, or get internships through rural areas. I find them by googling internship+rural or something like that. Take care/

I am checking into a MSN program thru USF that seems flexible with regards to experience....but it's $$$ and would put me in debt. I was able to obtain the nursing degree without debt and given the current state of things am reluctant to invest more. Am still hoping and praying to find anything anywhere that's at least 3hrs from my home but will go the MSN route if nothing comes up.....and given I've been out and looking since December '09 the $$$ MSN route is starting to looking more likely....sigh.

Also, you may want to look into some of the New Grad in Transition programs being offered thru CSUEB, Samuel Merritt and UCSF. I've done this as well as a Mission Trip and volunteer work that I am using as my experience on the applications that I am holding on to as a last resort. Apply to the New Grad RN programs first as this would give you at least 3 months RN level work that you can use as part of you MSN application.
