San Joaquin Delta College Fall 2013

U.S.A. California

I don't think there is a thread started yet. Who's applying?

Those of you in the program, are all first semester book absolutely necessary? I have heard that some of the books end up being not used very much. Thank you

i would buy the bundles and the pharmacology book. we have an app for drug guide so you don't need that, unless funding doesn't allow your semester to have it. never used my medical dictionary yet, the app has all that lol. i wouldn't buy any supplemental books until the semester starts and you see what you'll actually need. i havent used any of mine yet, and kind of wish i hadn't shelled out the money for it since we got to download an app that has it all. just get the required bundles .. fundamentals of nursing bundle in bookstore and then the med surg will be needed for the second half of the semester.

@ dlr13 & shye thanks for reassuring me, and you're both probably right. I turned in my packet today. so...37 days of waiting starts now. lol! i just wanted to say, good luck to everyone, and hopefully we will be meeting soon at school! I have been thinking about applying to sac city & ARC as well, but doubt I would be able to go there if I were accepted, I live in Manteca. But I was thinking about applying anyway, you never know.

Just turned in my app at ARC and I was only the 9th person to turn in an app! Last semester I turned in my app on the second day and I was the 60th! I'm thinking a lot fewer people are applying! We will see!!! Ahhh such a long wait ahead!!

Haha I was the first person to turn mine in at SCC :)

@Ashley: Oh this wait is agonizing already! You live in Manteca? I went to East Union HS :) I was thinking about applying to Modesto JC if I don't get in anywhere else. Their application period isn't until May, but I don't know if I would go there anyway since it is so far from Sacramento.

@soupdeezy: way to keep it real! Welcome to the convo! :)

Oy! Still no word on the extended campus, except that they will be choosing from the SCC applicant pool if they do have the funding...

They also said they'll be picking 33 students per semester and the extended campus class would be 55 students for one semester...

Thanks for the update! I'll just apply and see what happens.

I drove down to Merced for Physio in the summer M-Th for 6 weeks. It took me about an hour and fifteen minutes driving really fast. It was doable in that it was only 6 weeks. I do think it could work as you don't have classes ever day and if you got a clinical in maybe Lodi or Stockton. Tracy might make it hard. Ashley, you could try for a South Sacramento location if that is even available. I would check out how far South the Los Rios system has clinical locations. You might even find a ride share. Though, you'll probably both get in at Delta with no problem:)

I would for sure do it if it was my only choice. The price of gas is where it gets tough. At this point, I would only consider driving with the Sutter Extended Free tuition thing. It was really expensive to drive to Merced. Still, it was worth it for the class I took and being able to finish it in 6 weeks.

OK, I finished my application and dropping off tomorrow:) I just started the Sac City application and realized I can't apply to their program. I have Speech 10 from Sac City, which is now Speech 321 Interpersonal Communication. Unfortunately, they only take Public speaking or Group Comm. I seem to remember them taking Interpersonal Com not to long ago. Maybe not though. I'm kind of bummed.

I'm debating applying for CSU Stanislaus next spring. I haven't taken organic chem yet and would have to do it this fall. I think I will apply this summer and then decide.

Im taking chem 3B right now its not to hard at all. I almost thought about waiting to apply to Stan but I think financial with gas the way it is Delta is the best choice right now and then i'll transfer to sac state.

Still waiting! only 18 days left guys.

I wasnt able to apply to ARC because or SCC because im not completely done with COM ST 1a ...in progress, whereas delta has it as a corequisite they both have it as a prerequisite. oh well.

Ha ha 18 days should be a breeze (or at least that's what I'm telling myself!), since we've basically been waiting since eary February!

I just checked ARC's website and it says that speech is a corequisite (but a prereq for SCC), if you still want to apply to ARC... http://www.arc.losrios.edu/Documents/Academics/Nursing_Dept/Nursing%20General%20Info.pdf

Best of luck!

I wasn't able to apply for Merced junior college as child development was a prereq i guess :(. I'm dying over here I want to know! lol at least if I don;t make it this year next spring I will have my BS in Kinesiology in the spring and hopefully a higher TEAS score for more points!

I want to know too. If i dont make it this round, (im guessing it will be because of my micro class) i will try to improve TEAS (though only room for improvement by 4%) and probably have to retake micro & apply again in a year.

@shye, its crazy that at ARC the non-science prereqs are totally different. they count psychology (got a C 10 years ago) and will only take Eng 1 A (got a c 10 years ago) where delta will take eng 1D (i took both, got an A in Eng 1D and used that for my eng at delta) so eng=C psych=c nutrition=b and with the 3 of those you have to have at least 2.5 gpa and i dont! its crazy because those are the only 2 C's on my college transcripts and they happen to be grouped together in that one category and i dont even meet minimum requirements to apply because of that!

I wonder what rules apply to retaking psych and/or eng 1A, do you know if that would be allowed?I dont even know if i would want to do that, just an option if i dont make it into delta.

good luck everyone! this wait is becoming too much. some moments im confident, others im like oh god im not gonna make it. only time will tell!

@Ashley: That sucks! :( I know SCC and ARC do let you retake classes, but you have to have retaken them outside the school district. I know what you mean... We have soooooo much time to overthink our scores and whether they're good enough...

If I don't get into a program this semester, I will definitely be retaking micro in the fall... It's my only B in the science prerequisites. I took it 8 years ago and some schools have a recency requirement...

@Soupdeezy: A BS will help you out on your applications for sure! You could even do an accelerated BSN program and have two bachelor's in almost the same amount of time as an ADN!
