Sac State Fall 2013 Applicants

U.S.A. California

Published

Hello Everyone,

I am about to send in my application to CSU Sacramento for Fall 13 and was wondering if there are any other people in the same predicament. Would love love to hear your experiences as well.

Same here, got the email and just checked. No decision yet... :o

Well it makes me feel a little better that I'm not the only one who hasn't heard! If I was I would've been really freaked out. My brother's girlfriend goes there and she said they're always really late getting everything out.

Did any of you guys use English 1B for Critical Thinking (Area A3)? I'm always worried that some schools won't accept 1B but it seems that most of the CSU applications I've checked on csumentor automatically list English 1B as a choice for Area A3.

I'm a second Bachelor's applicant so I didn't do the Sacramento State University app yet. But I hope you guys hear back soon with good news.

I looked on assist.org and it said English 1b or 1c is ok to fill that requirement. You should be fin either way!

As far as working - it has been do-able for some people in the program, usually on the weekends. First semester of the program, I knew a few people who were comfortable working, but that number dwindled once we got to second semester. Now in third semester, it definitely seems feasible to hold down a part-time job.

Really, if you'd like to stay working, I think the best idea is to work weekends if that is a possibility, and have a flexible schedule because there will be times that you'll probably want to spend your weekends studying, or sometimes coming onto campus, or attending other events for class.

Vickymarie- thanks for your response. I may test the waters and stay working, and if it gets too much I could always quit.

What about the difficulty of the curriculum? Is nursing school really as crazy hard as everyone says?

Material-wise, it isn't necessarily material that is leagues beyond what you took in physiology already. It's just a huge change in thinking. I sort of would compare it to like, when you were in elementary school and were used to math problems, but all of a sudden get introduced to word problems. Questions on tests are usually a huge description of patient information which you interpret based on the pathophysiology and lab values you learned in class, and put those together to answer what the patient needs.

I think the hardest part is honestly time management, and just as a forewarning, it might hit you hard first semester because there is a lot going on, a lot to keep track of.

The good thing is that a lot of the work can be at least discussed collaboratively - online quizzes, case studies, etc. - and everyone can bounce questions off of one another. It helps when everyone sort of chimes in and keeps one another on track.

Long story short... the material may not necessarily be hard to learn, but it can be really difficult to make the leap from just knowing the information, to knowing how to use it in practice, which is what the tests are about. :)

Vickymarie- ok gotcha I see what you are saying. I am excited for this kind of learning because I feel like it'll be a lot more engaging and a lot more fun, having to use what u know to think things through. But I can definately see how not working the 1st semester is a good idea because we have to get used to how the program works. I will have to give some serious thinking to that. Thanks for being so helpful!

Hey guys I never got an email from Sac State but I did just check my "My Sac State" (https://my.csus.edu/uPortal/render.userLayoutRootNode.uP) and clicked on "student center" and it says that I have been admitted to the university. Like I said I never got an email so you'll have to go check it yourself.

But more importantly, anyone know when were supposed to hear back from the school or nursing?

(ElliotPB: and I used English 1B as my critical thinking so I think your fine)

I don't think they sent an email to anyone. Everyone had to check their application status. Hopefully we will get some type of email or mail with more information later.

I believe we are waiting until the end of April for the school of nursing... Almost two months! :nailbiting:

Got into Sac State :) that's at least a little bit of a relief. Hope everyone else did as well. I took critter55's advice and went to mysacstate and finally found my admission decision. Don't know why they didn't email them. Now just a couple more months till we get the news that we really want...

will they let us know by by 5/1/13? Because this is the deadline to confirm your intent to enroll.
