New grad residency multiple offers?

Ahh sometimes I hate how these nursing new graduate residencies/programs work! I so wish they were all on the same timeline like how medical residencies are. It's so difficult to turn down an offer in hopes of something else coming along. Like they say, a bird in the hand beats two in the bush.... But then it's so hard to get other offers or calls for GREAT interviews after you've already accepted a position!! Is anyone else in the same boat?

It's the Murphy's Law of Interviewing: once you accept a job at one facility, you will suddenly be besieged with other job interviews and/or offers :)

To be honest, as a new grad you do not really have the luxury of holding out for something better: new grad spots are so few in number and have many applicants for each spot. Plus the fact that one facility extended you a job offer says nothing about your chances of getting another offer somewhere else. Sure, you may be one of the fortunate few to be juggling multiple offers...in reality, most new grads have one or none.

While I'm not saying to jump at the first job offer you get, think long and hard before you decide to turn it down. In a dream world, we'd all start in our dream job. The reality is kinder if you look at this first job as the first step to your dream job. And more importantly, in this market the next new grad job interview/offer may be long in coming.

According to this very recent news story, 43 percent of all newly graduated nurses in California have been unable to secure employment in nursing. I would not be picky and take what you can get.

I agree. Don't get greedy. Be thankful that your resume is strong and recruiters/managers see your talent. That is not the case for over 50% of new grads nowadays. An interview is not a job offer, it's just an interview so who knows where that could go. Take the offer that is given because that is a sure thing.
