Never left med/surg! Need a specialty but not Mother-Baby.

I've been working in a med/surg telemetry unit for over 7 years. I think it's time for a change. Does anyone know if I can just take classes to move on to a specialty job like the ED or Urgent Care?

I think you should just go ahead and apply and see what happens. Your experience should be ample for urgent care. EDs like ACLS, so if you don't have that certification, it will help. But with 7 years of med-surg/tele experience (i.e. good, solid experience) I don't see any area that would not want to hire you, even if it meant some training.

It's not so much classes you need as a job that will train you. I don't know what part of the state you are in, some areas are easier to transition in than others. Critical care is a good place, you get lots of critical medication experiences as well as scenarios, etc. It was a huge help when I transitioned to ER. :)
