Here is my problem. I went to school in Va at medical careers institute in newport news.Graduated in april 08 passed nclex in june. I am about to apply for licensure in ca but, want to make sure that my school is accepted there. I have talked to the cabon the vbon adn my school and no one is helping. I don't see why is wouldn't be accepted but, need to know for sure b/c we can't afford to live out there if I can't work. Hubby deploys to Iraq soon. Any help would be great.

California has reciprocity with most states. That means if you're licensed in one state, you can usually get licensed in California by submitting an application. This is the California Board of Registered Nursing website: http://www.rn.ca.gov/

Good luck! :redbeathe

you can call the board and speak to them in person. You may have to speed dial them a million times to get through, and when you do you will be on hold, BUT they will answer your questions. You can also find some good rental postings on Craig's list. Good luck from a former veteran of 21 years USAF! Thank you for your family's service.

Nicole,

Just moved here (SoCal) from South Carolina. I don't know about your school being accepted here but I do know of some potential probs you will have regarding finances/getting job.

I graduated in May 08 and got my RN license in SC in May also. I applied to California (endorsement) and got my temporary CA license June 17. I applied at EVERY hospital near me and every other nursing opportunity also. First, the new grad programs have specific start dates and you have to apply early for them. Second, NOWHERE will hire a new grad except for the aforementioned programs. It took 2 1/2 months for me to get an interview/job and I don't start until Sept. 8. This has been an extremely expensive 3 months waiting. I do know that the next round of new grad stuff that you will probably be included in (you'll have your license and there will be actual openings) are beginning in January here (orange county). There may be more, but can't promise. So--hope this helps. I do not want you to come out here and not be aware of the wait. Other parts of California are actually experiencing an extreme amount of new grads with very limited positions. I do hope you get to come out here though!! I have posted elsewhere about this--if you click on my name you can see the other one titled "frustrated new grad with NO job opportunities" in which others in similar situations guided me. Good Luck!:hngon:

Thanks for the advise. I am aware of the programs. I've had my heart set on the new grad program at Rady childrens since before I graduated in April.I was one of the first to put an application in.I'm flying out to interview for it in a couple of weeks. i'll be there a couple of months before i start if I get it but, we've been planning for it. thanks for the heads up.:nurse:
