National University Generic Entry BSN Los Angeles

U.S.A. California

Hello Everyone!

Where do I start .. Well, if my transcripts arrive in time and the classes I previously took at community colleges transfer through like the adviser from NU said they would, I will be starting the Bio-medical Statistics this July. Does anyone have any tips or information about this class because math is my weakness and to make matters worse, it's an online class where it's practically self-taught .

The other pre-reqs I need to take are Information Literacy, Anatomy and Physiology I&II and Microbiology before I am able to apply for the program. Also, if i might add, I am a C average student :o in a lot of the electives that I took in the previous colleges and was wondering if there is still hope for me in this school, I know it's very competitive nowadays but has anyone been accepted in the program with an average gpa?

If there's anything you would like to add, any information will help!

Thank you!

hi, i go to nu as well but in fresno. i just took biomedical statistics in june and it wasnt really all that hard at all but you will need a texas instrument calculator for sure you cant do this class with out it. u have to do alot of calculations but its not too difficult, my teacher helped alot so he made it alot easier to understand. since you are doing that class online i am not for sure how it would be but i heard from other students that it was a little tough. information literacy ugh...i hated that class b/c my teacher was unorganized but the class itself was not hard. if you dont like writing then you might not like this class too much, well at fresno campus we did alot of writing. a and p 1&2 were easy just make sure you study all the time and do all your labs well. micro i havent taken it yet but i heard that it was a little harder than the a and p classes. c average is still good but i assume you want to be more than that and you can just work hard and stay positive. blessings to you!!! by the way, do they not have a bio medical stats class on campus at your location???

Hi queen2bee!

thanks for the reply! well the LA campus, they offer Bio Med Stats and Information Literacy Online only, the A&P you meet once/twice a week then hw online and the micro as well. I'm not so worried about A&P since I've took it before but it won't transfer so this time around it should be an easy A hopefully. Micro in the other hand, I've never took before but hopefully it will be okay for the both of us! haha .. but I haven't took Information Literacy yet, i hate writing essays. oh goodness, I thought i would be done with English already! I've already took English classes and having to do Information Literacy as an online class is going to be tedious. I really hope the Bio-Med Stats online isn't too bad, at least you had a professor to guide you! Are they all word problems type of calculations? Online is going to kill me, well I hope not! :crying2:

k4r3n!!!

yes bio med is nothing but word problems but they are really not that hard i actually enjoyed doing the work. i heard that ILR 260 was easier online than it is onsite, so hopefully thats true. either way it go im sure you will do just fine. if you need help nu math tutors can help you and i can too as much as i can since it is still fresh on my mind lol. i hope online doesn't kill you haha it shouldnt it isnt that bad as it may seem. when are you applying for the nursing program??? i went to a pre nursing program and i was told by the nursing program coordinator that she seen students get in the program with a 3.0 before someone with a 3.9. she said b/c most students that have a high gpa think that they dont have to study for the teas so when they take it they bomb it as well as the proctored essay. im not sure what is the average gpa of students that get accepted but i know that it is vital to do good on the teas and the essay for sure. so weather you have a 2.75 or a 4.0 its good to score high on the teas and essay. this is only according to what i was told by the fresno campus.

Hi k4r3n!

We're in very similiar situations. I also went to community college and need to take the same pre-requisite courses that you did. Did all your other courses transfer? How are you doing at NU? Is it worth it? How much are you paying/how long do you expect to be there? Also...what are the student/staff like? I'm only nineteen...will I fit in?

To All:

My GPA is 3.72, I haven't submitted an application yet but I'm in the process and will hopefully attend by September 2011. Any suggestions/advice? This is all for the generic entry BSN program in LA, SD, or Fresno. Haven't chosen yet. Thanks to all in advance!

I suggest buying Excel or SPSS for dummies depending on which software your teacher prefers

Hay, I hope someone can give me a good tip. I will be taking A@P in january. I am a bad speller. My GPA is of 3.82. I want to apply to NU after i finish with my sciense. Any good tips on how to be a good speller? I also work a full time jod as CNA in a dementia unit at a nursing home. Would it be to much to work full time and take A@P at national if i desided to take it there?

If you think your spelling will be a problem you might benefit from a longer class at the community college. National's science classes are only two months long.

I think i will do my science at a communety college. i dont want to take any chanses on lowering mu GPA. Are you at national's nursing program?

No not yet. I was accepted to cohort 29, it starts this January.

k4r3n,

i took the information literacy and biomed stats over the summer. previous comments are right about the information literacy being a lot of writing and the math being difficult to teach yourself online. i am attending at the los angeles campus as well. have you taken the teas yet? my test date is TOMORROW and i'm freaking out!!! i have a 3.88 gpa but i test well and am planning to do well on my exam, hopefully! the essay has me a little worried, a grade of 1-5 and it counts as 20% of the admissions assessment? not a lot of room for error. anyone who has taken the teas v and essay? is it very hard? how likely am i to be accepted with such an average gpa?
